Skinny Jeans, Fatty Girl

(If you've popped over from YouTube the link you were looking for is HERE. Once you've looked at that, why not stick around and read a little more?)

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

I am fat. Those three words aren't meant to self depreciate myself or encourage you all to shout, "Nooo! You're lovely!" from the hilltops, they are a mere fact. I'm not big boned and I don't have a thyroid problem, I eat too much yummy food like cheesey pasta and cadbury twirls and I don't do enough exercise. Naughty me. *Slaps wrist*.

Now I'm not saying that being fat is good. Nor am I saying it's bad. It's a personal issue. Ideally I'd be slimmer because of the health implications, but right now, I'm not.

With all that being said, just because I'm a bit tubby at the moment, doesn't mean I'm prepared to wear hideous tent like tops and clown pant style trousers. Oh no. Granted, sequined hot pants a la Pixie Lott aren't going to do my any favours, but if you know how to work an item, there is a lot more available to you than you might think.

Skinny jeans have always been a scary no-go item for me. I thought I must always stick to bootcut jeans to balance out my wide thighs and stick to a 'normal denim' colour so as not to draw attention to my wobbly bits. OR wear leggings with tunic tops, dresses or long cardis. Well, hang on a second, leggings cling to legs and leggings show wobbly bits.....sooooo what's the difference? Surely skinny jeans are just leggings with a zip and button?? Now I love an elasticated waist as much as the next person (especially since having Baby Glitter), but I can go wild and fore go it for a day or so!

In a flurry of fat-thighed liberation last week, I bought my first ever pair of skinny jeans...in colour!! I picked up a beautiful pair of dark teal skinny jeans from New Look for the grand total of £19.99. You can find them HERE. They were from the Inspire range so are a size 18 and up and come in three colours- Teal (or 'Petrol Blue' according to the site, Camel and Deep Red. I think I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for a pair in black too! Oohh!!

As you will see from about, I lost my marbles and made a video of me modelling said skinnies, in the alley behind my house. Lucky Doug nearly got quite an eyeful during one of my numerous 'wardrobe changes'. Ahahahaa!!

What do you think? Should larger ladies stick to bootcuts and flares? Or can us fatties do skinnies?

Toodlepip!

xx

  2. I seriously love you!! You inspire me! I don't care if you're fat, you're beautiful on the inside AND out - I would never want to be skinny, I'd rather have a big bum and big boobs to be proud of :)

and besides, it would just be rude to say no to Ben & Jerry. I would break their hearts!

  3. Louise you look bloomin' fab, the skinnies really suit you, and if you feel fab in them go for it.
I too am a fatty, a lot fatty fattier and you and have considered skinnies, but I have big chunky calves so they won't go past, even after numerous jumps around, but if I could I would.
    You can, so you do.
I love New Looks inspire range, I pick up their £11.99 jeans and they are fab, they do them in a skinny variety too so check them out.
    :) xx

  4. Skinny jeans are the most popular selling type of jean in the UK i read somewhere! I think anyone call pull off skinnies, if you know what to wear em with :) I'm a size 10/ 12 on my bottom and good god when i bought my first pair last week i was having heart attacks in the fitting room trying to get the buggers on, they really are SKINNY! Heavens knows what the shop assistant though, serious huffing/puffing whilst star jumping into them!! xxxx

  6. Louise you look stunning, and no I don't think anyone should be restricted in what they wear, I am a lot bigger than you and wear leggings, I do have some skinny jeans from Dorothy Perkins but because of my silly condition I have problems with swelling and so sometimes they can be uncomfy but I do wear them on a "good" day :) I think everyone should wear what they want to wear and feel good in, I wouldn't wear sequin hot pants either, but I don't think anyone should feel they can't wear something :) I'm so glad you got the jeans you look amazing in them, if New Look don't do black ones try Dorothy Perkins, also denim jeggings look nice too :) lots of love, great post as always xxx

  7. This is a great video! It must of taken a lot of time - thankyou for doing this! You look great by the way - personally I dont like that stick-thin-to-the-point-where-i-cant-move-properly look! (not meant to offend anyone) xxxx

  8. I'm curvy and have far too many wobbly bits than i care to mention after having my two girls.
All i live in at the moment is leggings, purely because they are the comfiest thing to be crawling about the floor in playing and tidying up.
However there are days when i don't wear leggings and on those days i wear jeggings from Primark (i have about 10 of the same pair) which at the end of the day, are essentially skinny jeans with an elasticated waist.
Anybody can wear skinny jeans, you just have to make them work for your own figure in my opinion.
    You look great

  9. Louise you look fantastic! I have quite weirdly large thighs, in comparison to the rest of me, so I always struggle to find the right trousers/jeans. A size 10 fits around the waist, but not the legs and I cant wear any other jeans than skinny jeans, they're my fave..anyway, what I want to say is that New Look have some fantastic jeans and trousers this year, I picked up some lush black jeans for £14.99! £14.99! Would that happen in Topshop? I think not!

  11. I love (and am very jealous!!) of your writing style. You've got such a way with words. I am having trouble playing the vidoes but re.skinny jeans. The style is such a broad one now and there are so many variations and colours etc that anybody who wants to wear them should be able to find some that they are happy in. Btw,also agree with one of the other comments. Your eye make up looks fab in the still for the first video :)

  12. Thank you for such a fab post! I am also a chunky monkey but feel most comfortable in skinny jeans. I wear "super skinnies" from Dorothy P and even though that sounds terrifying and I'm definitely not in a "super skinny" girl, they hold everything in and make me feel less frumpy than in jeans that sit loosely on my legs. Woo for being curvy xxx

  13. I'm a size 18 Louise and skinny jeans are the only style of jeans I wear! I agree with you completely, as long as you know how to dress them for your shape then skinny jeans aren't our enemies!

  14. I'm a 16/18 and i took the plunge the other week and bought some dark red skinny jeans from new look, they fit great and i was surprised how many complements I got, I think you look fab! I'm also fat because I eat too much food, everything i shouldn't eat, I do pah! oh well you only live once I don't wanna spend it eating rabbit food xxx

  15. I love you Lou!!! I'm also a mama, my little guy turned 1 two weeks ago and I'm finally getting around to eating healthier!!! I'm 5'10" and a size 14 or 16 (used to be 10 or 12.) I've been sticking to black sweatpants (a big no no) and finally just bought some trousers and dark denim flare jeans! I haven't been gutsy to try skinny jeans, but I think I might... will also have to buy some boots to go with 'em! I wish I could find teal skinny jeans in the states! xxxx

  16. I think any size and any shape can wear skinnies, and like you said - no one seems to have any insecurities wearing leggings so why not leg hugging denim?
They honestly look great on you and you should definitely keep wearing them! Oh and if Newlook don't pull through with a black pair, Primark's black skinnies used to last ages for me. Sadly I can't buy them anymore as my ginger cat malts all over them and I look like something he's coughed up.

    xx

  18. I always read your blog, you know that, but I have troubled commenting from my phone for some reason...however I'm pushing past the problems to say that you DO look lovely, always, and your size or shape really doesn't matter. If you've got confidence I think you can most things off, and you're definitely rocking the skinny jeans, you look great :) Besides, you look slimmer in every video, you're obviously doing something right!

You're a beautiful girl inside AND out xxx

  19. Love this, it's fab and so are you! I'm also a bit of a chubba, purely my own fault, cakes will be the death of me! So I loved this post! xx

  22. i too am a "fatty" - at size 16 and 6ft3, jeans are tricky at the best of times but i only wear skinnies! i just bought some lovely burgundy ones from topshop and i don't see why i shouldn't wear skinny jeans like any other girl in the street. if they look good then why not! xx

  24. I don't understand how you can look at that photo and think you look fat! you look AMAZING.
I wish I had legs like yours! I'm 5'3, 16 on top and 18/20 on bottom with the worlds shortest legs. You look smashing! be glad to have a wonderful figure and lovely long legs that I would quite like to have myself xx

  25. You look beautiful, Louise! Skinny jeans can be worn by anyone, no matter what size you are! Size is just a number. You should wear clothes that you feel comfortable in and by god, you look amazing in these! BEAUTIFUL LADY! :) xx

  26. You look amazing! Really really nice. I always feel so self conscious too wearing skinny jeans or leggings but maybe I'll give it another try and hide my jelly belly behind a loose top or something haha xxx

  27. I think they look great on you! And i'm jealous of how bubbly, happy and smiley you always are, you crack me up every time I watch your videos :) And even though i'm a size 10 or maybe a 8,I don't wear dresses or leggings because of my fat calves and my lack of confidence but next week im going to be brave and buy a dress! So now you see, it's not really about how big you are but about the amount of confidence you have to show yourself and you must be lucky with the fact that you are so confident, because that's more important than being skinny! I love your videos and blog! xx

  28. GOOD FOR YOU!!!

I think skinny jeans can be worn of a lady of any size! I started wearing them and I have been called fat and obsese by so called 'friends' because i have thighs and a size 12-14 ass (more of a 14 lets be honest).

Like any girl I have major insecurities and when I wore them... I thought why should they be limited to size 8s?

My sister is the same size as me with a big bum and she refused for years to wear them and limited herself to flares and didnt even look a leggings.

Now she wears them and I'm a firm believer that if you have CONFIDENCE then it will look good. People of any size get taunts, I have a skinny friend who people say is anorexic (she is nothing of the sort). And she hates her body too, she wishes she had curves.

I'm so happy your wearing them with confidence, no girl should hide their body, and I think this is an inspiring post.

    rant rant rant, sorry! xxxx

  33. You look so lovely in your skinny jeans, and I am totally jealous I can't pull them off as you can! (trust me I've tried...eek!)
You inspire me Louise, to embrace myself. I'm a "fatty" in every sense of the word! lol I'm not even going to say curvy...because, I am seriously over weight. I've hidden in tent tops and ill fitting jeans for so long. But you inspire me to look closer at what is available to me and mixing things up a bit! Thank you Lovely Louise for helping me feel beautiful! :D

  40. Hi,

I think skinny jeans actually look better than boot-cuts on plump people. It just needs to be balanced with the right kind of top like you have done in your pic up there...

I need to get that teal coloured jeans now...

  50. Skinny Jeans, Fatty Girl might contrast body ideals, suggesting society's narrow view on beauty. The phrase could reflect personal style and body confidence, emphasizing that fashion belongs to everyone, regardless of size. mr. wrench, possibly a symbolic figure, breaks barriers, showing that individuality and self-expression matter more than stereotypes.
