DIY Baby Clothes

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Not too long ago, on a warm summer day, I was asked if I had a PO Box to send Darcy some bits and bobs to. As it happens I do, and a few weeks later when I went to collect my treasure (I pick it up about once every six weeks), I was greeted with some lovely goodies from Modified Fashion.

DIY_Baby_Clothes

At the moment they don't have a website but there is quite a lot of information on their Twitter account.

DIY_Baby_Clothes

I am always impressed when people take something ordinary and make it special so it was lovely to see this done with tiny baby clothes. I have actually been thinking about customising a few of my own clothes so these pieces have been quite an inspiration to get crackalacking.

Modified Fashion also gifted me a few other items but these were my absolute favourites. They would be lovely for your own bambinos but also I think they'd make a sweet gift for Mamas-To-Be or birthday presents. I'm always looking for something a little unusual.

So from Baby Glitter and I, thank you very much modified fashion, we look forward to seeing your business grow.

Wicker Chair Upgrade

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Why oh why did nobody tell me sooner about the wonders of spray paint?!

I bought this wicker chair for Darcy from a vintage emporium (see blog post and pictures of it HERE) for about £15 and whilst the colour is inoffensive, it didn't look very special in my living room.

Add a can of spray paint and some elbow grease and wowee, wowee, brand new chair.

Before you spray, it's best to lightly sand (or get your little sister to do it for you, heh heh), wipe off any dust and debris and take it into a well ventilated space.

The spray paint I used was from a craft store and under £10. Be sure to check the label to see if it is suitable for the surface you are using it on, ie. wood, metal etc.

I decided to leave it at one coat but if you wanted a completely covered look, with no natural wood colour showing through, I would go for two. I prefer the shabby chic, slightly aged effect.

The chair now fits perfectly into our lounge which is where we spend the majority of our time. Darcy feels very special to have her own little place and if we decide it doesn't work for the space anymore, it's small enough to fit in lots of other nooks.

This was such a fast, affordable project that I am now continually on the hunt for new things to paint. I have been doing more and more projects around the house lately and can't wait to share a full tour with you soon.

This last tour I did was Darcy's room whilst I was pregnant (link), so I am well overdue!

What do you like to do to spruce your rooms up? Have you done any projects lately?

DIY || Spray Painted Wicker Basket

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

It's no secret at all that I like things in muted tones and pretty looking. I know shabby chic is just sooooo 2010 but frankly, I don't care. Throw me a bit of distressed wood and lace and I'm yours.

We'd had this wicker basket floating round for a few years and I liked the shape too much to throw it out during my current 'get rid of crap' phase. I decided that the only way it was staying was if it were usable and so project make-the-wicker-white-and-think-of-a-better-project-name-next-time came about.

This was probably the easiest craft project I have ever done in my life.

How To Spray Paint Wicker

Using a damp cloth, clean the basket.
Allow to dry.
In a well ventilated and protected (you don't want spray paint everywhere!) area, hold the can 30-50cm away from the object and spray evenly.
Leave to dry (I left the basket outside for a good few hours).
Embellish.

My spray paint was bought from hobbycraft. Just read the label to see what kind of materials it is suitable. This said yes to wood so I went for it.

Easy peasy! My basket still has that 'new paint' smell but I think in time it will fade. Overall, I'm really happy and think I've caught the spray painting bug! Watch this space!!

The Best Of February

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Well, I meant to write this post for Friday, but will with all the upset of loosing my little Mindycat, I took a day away from my laptop. I'm sure you won't mind.

February was a proud blog month for me. I challenged myself to upload a post every single weekday and I succeeded. I wasn't exactly a breeze but I really enjoyed getting stuck in and am pleased with the content I produced. Look at me being all self praising! Haha.

I'm reluctant to challenge myself to do this throughout March as I know I have a LOT on in the next 4 weeks but I'm going to give it a while. In for a penny, in for a pound as they say...whatever that actually means!

So, before it's too late, let's reflect on the great month that we just had and tomorrow we'll be looking forward to the next one. Smooooth.

Urban Decay Spring Collection 2013 Naked Flushed

We kicked off February with THIS post, oohing and arring over the latest offerings from Urban Decay. The above palette is the Naked Blush Trio, the sister product the the Naked Eyeshadow. I'm crossing my fingers for more from this range.

Illamasqua Imperfection

Still in total makeup junkie mode (when am I not in this mode?!) I told you all about THIS amazing Illamasqua Event I had attended and we talked about speckled nails. Last month I also saw that L'Oreal are continuing with the speckled nail trend so I suspect this will be something we see a lot of in the months to come. Exciting to have something new.

Handmade Valentine Card by Toddler/Baby | Sprinkle of Glitter

In week two, as well as having a long overdue blog redesign from Blogger/Author/Designer WonderForest, I talked about spending quality time with Darcy and making THESE oh so cute Valentine Cards for our family.

Sprinkle of Glitter Makeup FOTD

In that same week, I uploaded THIS Happy Wife FOTD and took a new approach to photographing products - grouping! I by far and above prefer this method and think I will keep it up in the future.

Cloud Nine Giveaway | Free Irons | Free hair styler

February's giveaway was for a pair of Cloud Nine Stylers (won't link it as this giveaway is now closed). I was thrilled with your enthusiasm and may try and do a few more of these sorts of things. I'm quite fortunate in that I am offered to do giveaways by a lot of brands but I only really do them if the prizes excite me or I think they are extra special. Shall I do more? You decide.

February was the month that I launched THIS new feature- Baby Style. If Darcy will stand still for 2 minutes and I can get a decent snap, you'll see a lot more of this kind of thing! After THIS insane clothes haul, I think I've got enough clothes! Haha.

How to colour glass jars

In the final week of the month, we had THIS good old fashioned DIY post. As always, it was easy and affordable as I think that's what makes projects most appealing! All too often I have given up on things when they were too complex (I'm looking at you 'easy sew nappy bag') and felt frustrated and out of pocket (yeah, still you 'easy sew nappy bag. Grrrr). If your repins on Pinterest were anything to go by, this DIY tutorial was a hit. Woot woot.

Cat and Baby Photography

And then finally, at the very end of a brilliant month, there was the very sad news of my wonderful kitty going up to heaven. She is buried in my back garden (I paid extra for the vet to come out to our house and leave her body- well worth the expense if you are ever in this awful position as the animal is a LOT calmer) and I imagine that she is up in heaven with my Mum and Gran and her kitty Mum and any brothers and sisters she might have had. She had a good life.

-------------- --------------

So a busy month! On top of all of those highlights (and the low light), were my regular posts like Amazing Advertisers, Bedroom Beauty Challenge and four Motivational Mondays (I think my favourite posts to write).

Is there anything specific you'd like to see in March? What did you enjoy or maybe dislike (holds breath and hopes you're kind!) in February?

How To :: Colour Glass Jars

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Remember back in the olden days when I was Mrs Loved To Craft? Well, the other day she was back! back with a painty-inspired-by-pinterest venom!

How To Colour Glass Jars

Now, before all you DIY goddesses throw down your PVA in anger, yes, I know there is more than one way to colour glass jars and I think all of them are lovely. This way however, is with acrylic paint and is beyond simple. I like simple.

How to colour glass jars

Gather your clean, dry glass jars.

Generously pour acrylic paint (I bought mine from Hobbycraft) into the bottom and if you can, round the edges INSIDE.

Roll/twist the jar about to encourage paint to coat the inside completely.

How to colour glass jars

On newspaper or a surface you're happy to ruin, leave the jars upside down to finish the inner coating and let the excess paint drain out.

Leave to dry and add contents.

Voila!

Do you think this is something you'll try? Think of the possibilities!!

My Tiny Valentine

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Happy Valentines Day!

I know the 14th of February envokes a lot of mixed feelings for people. Some think it's a great excuse to celebrate love and romance, where as others think it's just an excuse for card companies to make money and begrudge every couple they know. I must say, throughout the last decade I have been on both sides of the luurrvvee fence.

Which ever way you feel this year, you can't deny the cuteness of handmade gifts from tiny little people.

Handmade Valentine Card by Toddler/Baby | Sprinkle of Glitter

Of course Matt and I have also done special things for each other but this year, I want an excuse to get my coloured card out with Baby Glitter and so we had a little crafting session. You may have seen a sneak peak of it in THIS post.

I have to admit that after she had done the initial paint stamping, the cutting and sticking was my department. The finished results were inspired by something we saw on Pinterest, so I shan't take all the credit. I'm really pleased with how these turned out and hope the recipients enjoy the love flavoured sentiment.

However you are or aren't celebrating Saint Valentine today, I hope you are happy and with people you love. If you're feeling a bit lonesome, why not have a chat in the comments? Us Sprinklerinos are a very loving crowd and I'm sure someone will have something kind to say!

Let me know what you've done today!

Gift Ideas for Dashing Dad's

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

All my life I have struggled with buying gifts for men. This Father's Day I did myself proud though. So proud, I'm going to share my idea with you. I should probably point out at this point that it was my friend Marie's idea, but seeing as she lives on the other side of the world in America, I don't think she'll squeal on me any time soon!

(I have editted the flower over Baby Glitter's chest because naturally I don't want her topless on the internet. In real life, that's not there! Matt was THRILLED with his gift and can't wait to hang it in his study.)

How to make this Dashing Dad's Gift

1. Think about the word you want to use and buy the correct frame. I wanted 'D.A.D', so I only needed a tripple window frame (mine was from Ikea).

2. Buy the letters you need to make the word and paint them the colour your choose. I used some paint I had in a little B&Q tester pot, so you really don't need to be Mrs Fancy here.

3. Get snap happy! I dressed Baby Glitter in a little tutu and pink bloomers, sat her on a blanket which I held up behind her, whilst Zoe clicked away. You may have to take a fair few shots (especially with young children and babies) but hang in there and be patient. If possible, ask a friend to help because it makes life so much easier! Thank You Zoe!

4. Take your snaps to the developer and frame. Simples.

: TIPS :

Try this for the Christmas season but with 'J.O.Y' or 'N.O.E.L' and a festive outfit. You don't need a baby/child for this, I made one for my Dad with these photographs. Don't I look spiffing?! Haha.

Buy a double windowed frame and hold numbers to make a unique birthday gift.

Use a four windowed frame for words like 'LOVE', 'LIVE', 'LUCK', 'BABY, 'HOME'.

To make photographs look extra swish, consider using a free photo editting site like picmonkey. You don't need a professional camera to make brilliant images, just a bit of creativity.

If this was a gift from children, buy a simple frame and allow them to embellish it with gems, paints, buttons or sparkles.

HAVE FUN!

Is this an idea you like and might try? Do you have any great DIY ideas for the menfolk in your life? Share the love.

Toodlepip!
