Motivational Monday || Jealousy

Aloha Sprinkerinos,

It is Monday. A fresh start, a new chance. All those things you messed up last week? Don't worry about them, you have another shot doing things better and I know you will.

Today's image from Pinterest was chosen because it's something I remind myself of allll thhhee timmme!!! Lately I've found I remind myself less and I think it could be because it's finally sunk in. Woohoo for positive reinforcements!

I think that we as women (and hello men if you are reading too) are naturally conditioned to compete with each other. One of my earliest memories is being told by a teacher to, 'sit nicely like Natalie' and suddenly I thought, 'Natalie sits better than I do, Natalie is better than me'. It stuck. When you look, there are SO many moments in our lives when we compare ourselves to other people and feel less.

We don't need to do this. Just because someone is doing well, doesn't mean you are doing badly. If your friend gets a promotion at work which includes and increased salary, yours isn't going to be decreased. You didn't do badly, she just had a success and soon it will be your turn for a success as well.

This week, if you know someone that has good news or does really well at something, be happy for them. It's not a reflection on you and if you work hard, you'll be having people be happy for you too. Don't begrudge or resent, share in their joy and spread even more positivity around your world.

Toodlepip!

xx

  1. Great Post! it's easy to tend to compare ourselves to others, when we need to realise that we are special, in our own way! I've got a similar post up on my Blog! X.

  4. That is sooo true. All these days I was compared to others and I thought I wasn't good at it. Then realized I'm not bad either. She's just better. I write about these stuff as well . But I look up to you as my idol Louise

  5. So true! As a uni student I'm always comparing myself to others in my classes but of course that's not a healthy thing to do and a classmate getting an A doesn't make me any less smart. Thanks for the reminder :)

  6. This, this, everything about this, YES LOUISE! Comparison is a thief of any potential joy we may have, there's just no point comparing yourself to someone who you think is better than you. There's no point wasting your time feeling bitter.

  9. Very good lesson for people to learn :) unforch women are pitted against each other to compete to be slightly better than each other, in order to get off this shitty bottom rung men have forced us onto. Women pretend to be the Cool Girl, they don't nag, they let their boyfriend do what they want and boys elevate their status above 'normal' girls 'cos they are 'cool' and 'real' even though the whole thing is an act. It makes me sad cos girls don't even notice how competitive they're being, and it's usually for a male's attention or in a room full of them. So sad.

  12. That's such a nice way to put it Louise, and totally true. Somebody else doing well doesn't mean you've done badly - it's like the whole thing with is the glass half empty of half full? It's just the way we look at things, and it's so easy to forget to not compare!
Thanks for this, it's a nice way to start a Monday! <3

She couldn't be happy for me and always had to compete. When good things happen to my friends I am nothing but happy for them. Great motivational post xxx

  19. Thank you for this! Gotta be honest here: Whenever someone is being good at something, I automatically feel like I failed, like I'm not good enough, like I'm a loser. I know I shouldn't feel this way, but it's so hard not to. Of course I am happy if someone succeeds at something, but not being jealous is hard. I will do my best to stop comparing myself to other people all the time. I am the best me I can be, after all.

We tend to compare ourselves to others and the believe we are less than them because they have a better job, or a higher salary, or a supposedly happier life.
We should stop doing this. We should stop comparing ourselves, because every human being is valuable and we are not by any means less than the other.

  33. I love this message. This is something that has plagued me all of my life. I am an identical twin and so my entire sense of identity has been built on how others described us when they scrutinised us for differences (a game so many seem to love playing with twins, and don't seem to think politeness applies). If she is the thin one, I automatically assumed I was the fat one. If she was the funny one, I automatically assumed I was human tofu etc.
It took me a really long time to get out of that mindset, and to be honest I probably still struggle with it now.

  42. omg! I was thinking about that yesterday and remembering how frustrated I felt when my high school teachers would compare me to my sister (she's older so she had classes with them before me).

I would feel so sad and inferior to her but then I realised she was not better than me and I was not worst than her. We are different, we think differently and learn the same thing in different ways.

Then I decided to start talking to those teacher and ask them not to do that because I was feeling miserable! Slowly they stopped and I regained my confidence to be just as good as her, neither better nor worse.

Thanks for the remainder that we are all good at something, Louise!

  44. I remember being in Primary school (I'm in high school now) and crying because I hadn't done as well in maths as some of the others in my group. They were all boys and I vowed I'd do better than them but didn't. It's funny thinking about it now. I cried for at least ten minutes. But then a teacher talked to me and he said something that's stuck for a really long time. It was something along the lines of sometimes you have such high standards for yourself that you lose track of your success. He talked about how he could see I was a perfectionist and that there's always room for improvement because sometimes you're not always the best. I've been trying hard to accept that, but it's hard. It's a work in progress. I really loved this post. Stella

I'll also try to not think that I did something badly when my friend had a success, because actually all of the teachers are saying that I'm doing well so, the only problem is that I don't believe in that. New week, fresh start, this is my goal for this week: Believe in myself and don't compare myself to others. Your posts are so motivational! Love you Louise! xx

  52. I really think that this kind of post is very important because just as you said it's something that we aren't taught. Instead of being taught to feel happy for others we are taught to feel competitive and to always be better then the person next to you. That isn't necessarily true and all it does is just angry and really we are getting no where. We should just be happy for others and focus on working hard for ourselves and one day we will be rewarded for it :)

I completely agree 100% with this, a friend at work got a promotion and one colleague took it really bad and was super jealous, whilst everybody else was really happy for her, being nice to everyone and being happy for people is what gets you further in life and enriches your life with happy friends in return.

  85. A positive message Louise. I think it's important to remember that not everyone's version of 'success' is the same. For example getting a promotion at work might be to be all and end all to some people but not to others. You're right, you should only ever measure success through your own goals and not other peoples. I believe It's all about what makes you happy as an individual. If you're happy, you're successful, regardless of what 'boxes' you've ticked in life. If you're not happy, then none of the other stuff matters x

  86. 100% agree. I sometimes have to remind myself of this when I'm having a stressful week or month but in all we woman should support each other rather than feeling the need to be competitive! Thanks for reminding me that their success is not my failure, sometimes we need a little reminder! :)

  96. I have to remind that to myself every single day and hopefully one day i don't have to because i'm absolutely happy with what i have and what I've done ! :) it's really easy to actually forget what you already have because you always want more and more and forget to look back how far you've actually come ..
