Aloha Sprinklerinos,
If you are a follower of Sprinkle of Glitter or Sprinkle of Chatter on YouTube then this isn't a new story for you. However, if you are strictly a blogspot kinda gal, this might give you a warm fuzzy of joy.
Three years ago, whilst reading the comments on one of my latest videos, I stumbled across a comment that peaked my interest, clicked on the profile, fell instantly in love with the channel, emailed the lady who ran it and skip forward 36 months, she's one of my besties!
The only issue is geography. With her living in Seattle and me near London, we had to manage a long distance bromance (can ladies have a 'bromance'??).
Here is the story of how, this Easter, things changed.
If you are unable to view the embedded version, click here to go directly to the video.
Since uploading this video I have heard SO many similar stories of internet friendships. If you have one, leave it in the comments. I know I enjoy reading about them so bet others do too!
Toodlepip!
xx

I've only met two of my online friends - with one it was just really awkward ad I don't think we'll see each other again and the other one I've caught up with her 4 times - we saw One Direction together, got tattoos together (not matching) and always just generally have a fun time. She's so much more outgoing and daring than me and I really admire that about her. We have really deep chats that I value a lot.
ReplyDeleteI think internet friendships are beautiful and just as real as real life friendships. Sometimes they've even deeper as you have more in common on connect on a level that isn't largely based on proximity.
I've really enjoyed you & Marie's vlogs! x

I love this! I met my best friend on an online forum for Russell Brand fans (hahaha) when I was 16 and she was 17, and then we met at one of his gigs and have been best friends ever since!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful story Louise :)
ReplyDeleteOne of my best friends met a lovely girl from America via the internet many years ago, they fell in love and to cut a long story short - they are now happily married and living in the UK :)

ReplyDeleteThe perks of being a hipster
Six years ago I joined an online band community and started talking to some fans who lives in the state next to mine. Six months later (roughly) said band was doing an Australian tour and we all decided to meet up and travel around for it. None of us really listen to the band anymore but we're all still friends. In particular me and my best friend, Jess, who is actually three years younger than me. It's been incredible having different experiences at different times. We met when I was 18 and I've actually just celebrated my 24th birthday today and she's been by my side, on the internet and in person on some occasions. She even flew over for Valentines day this year and we celebrated her 21st a few weeks early. When you were talking about how Marie was this really amazing person that you just wanted people to know about, that's how I often feel about Jess. She's my soul mate a million times over. Always prepared to give me a kick up the ass when I'm down about silly stuff and always willing to listen to me talk about things she has absolutely no interest in whatsoever. I could brag about her and how good of a friend she is non stop. We often talk about growing old together and our kids being the best of friends. I'm flying to Perth next month to spend some time with her and all our other mutual friends and we've already got another trip planned for after that. Our friendship is the most important thing to me! I'm glad you have someone like Marie in your life Louise! It makes me so happy when people are surrounded by such positive people who lift them up in a friendship and help each other to be better. xo
ReplyDeleteI think this is so lovely! :) You guys are so amazing together with your little families. :)

This was so lovely to watch. I met my best friend on an internet forum 14 years ago, she lives in Atlanta, I live in the Netherlands and it's awesome. When we finally met in person it was like we had seen each other just the week before. Cherish these sort of friendships, they are meant to be!

ReplyDeleteLove.
Reading this story just reminds me of me and Katie. I found her via a website that advertised other teen bloggers and sent her an email because she was the only blogger in my age group! We ended up bonding over you and zoe which was pretty awesome for us. Even though we are from 2 different cultural backgrounds i cant stop hoping that I'd somehow meet her someday. Frankly, I know I'll make it happen. If you're reading this kate (She is an ardent fan of yours louise, I bet she'll find her way here) then i wuv you a lot :) You're pretty swish :'')
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got to meet her Lou, hope you guys had lotsa fun!

I made a bunch on online freinds when i was 13 years old while trying to learn photoshop online- skip forward almost 7 years and this september I am finally getting to meet one of my longest standing friends in person, like I have stayed at her house ( unfortunately she was up north attending uni at the time) but like im finally going to be able to see her and hug her and its just going to be super surreal especially because she is a twin and because i have met and traveled with her sister I kind of feel like i have already met her but its just going to be so djksajfgdavkjgb.
ReplyDeleteI would love to make some internet friends through blogging, especially because I'm currently at a time when my real life friends are not treating my very fairly. I love the video though!

I met one of my best friends on Twitter! We bonded over a mutual love of One Direction when we were about 14/15 and we've been friends ever since! After speaking online for a while, we swapped numbers and we have talked pretty much every day for around 3 years. We've managed to meet up a few times (despite the 5 hour distance between us!) and it feels like I've known her forever. These vlogs are lovely to watch and it's nice to see that you've found a good friend in Marie :) xx
ReplyDeleteI loved watching that video, i got really emotional and cried when you and marie finally met, it was the sweetest moment ever! You are both such lovely ladies and am so glad you found each other and are in each other's lives :) x

I love this so much. I have a friend in Brazil and I live in Belgium. It's a huge distance and the plain ticket is very expensive. And i would have to make a transfer too :(
ReplyDeleteBut one day I'm gonna go to her and we'll go together to california and visit the elephant seals and go to a corgi meeting ! :D
Aww bless, this post was terrific Louise!
ReplyDeleteI met my best friend Katie on the internet over 10 years ago (when it was still cool to use ICQ and Myspace). We met on a Duran Duran message board and immediately fell in love with each other (the loveliest kind of love, that is)! Katie lived in the UK - and still does - and I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. We finally met in person three or four years ago when my parents and I travelled to London for a couple of weeks. I can't tell you how SUPERB that moment was, finally getting to see her lovely face IN PERSON!! Actually, you know what I'm talking about because the same thing happened to you in the video you posted :P
I've gone back to England every single year since then to visit her and the last time I went, which was in October 2013, she married her husband and I served as her Maid of Honour. I'm getting goosebumps and shivers just typing it all out -- Katie means the absolute world to me and I'm so grateful for the internet!

ReplyDeleteAww love reunions.
If you could take the time to check out my blog: http://niamhthinks.blogspot.co.uk/ it would mean a lot.
There is this girl on tumblr that I was never really "internet friends" with. But we mutually followed each other, liked each others blogs, and talked every once in a while.
ReplyDeleteThen I headed off to Poland for 6 months, I was there to teach english in a polish elementary school. About a month in I realized she was in Poland as well (taking classes at a polish university), but not just in Poland she was in Warsaw about 15 minutes by transit from were I was currently staying.
You may think that it is not that big of a coincidence seeing as Polish people have tumblrs too. But no, not only was she in Poland at the same time as me, she was leaving right around when I was leaving, and she lives in Langley and I live in Surrey. Which are about a half hour drive away from each other in Canada.
Once we realized that, we met for coffee at starbucks, then continued to do that every wednesday for the rest of the time we were in Poland. She was my movie buddy and we even did a trip to Prague together (12 hours on a bus, 16 hours in Prague, 12 hours on a bus back... we were nuts)
And now that we are back home, we still hang out, and we still meet up for coffee. It's great!!
I definitely have a similar story and this video brought me to tears! I met a friend through tumblr. Casual conversations for nearly 6 months until we discovered that we shared the same birthday. From that day on, we became a million times closer and now, nearly a year later. and we are best friends. Only problem is that she lives about 12 hours away from me.
ReplyDeleteI've watched all four vlogs you've uploaded so far, such a nice little story and I just died with happiness when you met for the first time, that was amazing!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute video!

ReplyDeleteI truly believe that internet friendships can be just can close and real as real life ones. And finally meeting is even more special! I think that you value things more when they're not always there. It's very obvious how much you valued your (I would imagine; too short) time with Marie!
I love your videos Louise and if you don't think I'm too old, please adopt me into your beautiful family :P x
This is beautiful. I've teared up watching your video, and then teared up watching hers. It's been a teary morning.

ReplyDeleteI met my best friend over twitter four years ago! We used to live fairly close to each other but then she moved further away. We still meet up with each as much as possible and we talk basically 24/7. Internet friendships aren't given as much credit and recognition as they deserve if you ask me.
ReplyDelete:) xx
I live in Ireland and have a penpal in Kentucky, USA. We've been writing to each other for years now and we really want to meet but it just costs so much. Hopefully we get to meet one day! It's strange how close you can feel to someone you've never met but she's honestly one of my best friends :')

I cried so much when I saw the video a while a go. And just reading this makes my eyes wet again. It is so fantastic that you two have met.
ReplyDeletelaceagateforlife.blogspot.com
Oh Louise...
ReplyDeleteThis made me literally cry. I moved to the states 5 months ago and my best friends and family who mean so much to me are so far away. I moved here for the person who I love. And I can't describe how happy I was, to the point I was crying to see him throughout our 3 years of relationship when we'd fly to see each other. But now as I'm here with him, I miss my family so bad, I know, when I fly back to see them, I'll be crying, just like you too. With the internet the world became so small, we become friends, fall in love...but nothing can replace this very happy moment in the airport when you see the person coming from the gate.
Darcy is so adorable, she is genuinely so so happy to see them. She is turning into a beautiful kind young lady, just like her mother. And I'm saying all this from the bottom of my heart. Please don't forget of what a wonderful person you are. And please, keep up your videos and your blog, you inspire me to always be a better person.
Sonya

You two being with each other for the first time was possibly the sweetest&most genuine moment I have each witnessed and it was truly lovely.

I watched your video as well as your best friend's video and teared up both times! I really hope that I can make a connection like that with someone! It would make this whole social network experience worth it!
ReplyDeleteThis is so amazing Louise. It made me tear up!
ReplyDeleteI have met two very good friends online (through a forum when I was younger). And I actually traveled around Europe for a month with one of them. We all live in Victoria, Australia, and i'm about 50 minutes drive from both of them. It's amazing how the internet can flourish such wonderful friendships.
I'm only just starting the blogging scene, but it would be wonderful to meet some new people on here xx

ReplyDeleteMy friend Aish and I met back in the fall of 2013, all starting with a comment on my 'About Me' tab. It was such a nice thing of her to do, and we still email today. Sadly, our situation is similar to yours. I'm from America and she is from Dubai. We are both teenagers, meaning there is no money to travel to see each other, but I'm hoping someday we can make it possible! This video has inspired me to be able to meet this wonderful friend I have, so thank you Louise!
ReplyDeleteI loved hearing yours and Marie's story and I've been watching all the vlogs! Your families are so sweet together! I've met many friends on the internet through social media! One of my friends actually came to my city to go to the same college as me! And another one of my friends I've met are planning a trip and I'm flying to see her in a month tomorrow! I can't wait.

ReplyDeleteAww this is lovely :) I would like more friends, the ones I have I hardly see and my friendships have faded from everyone moving onto university a few years ago. I've never made any proper friends since school.
