Some Disney Explainin'!

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

I've got some Disney explaining to do. Here's the story-

For years Marie BitsandClips have been talking about our 'someday dream' to take the girls (and Luca) to DisneyLand or DisneyWorld together. We are the kind of women who delight in the little things so a trip like that would be like magic to us. We knew we would take joy from every tiny thing, from packing in flight handbags to seeing Cinderella's castle, and so, it's been on our 'please, please one day please list' for a looonngg time.

(From our trip in Oct '13)

Now, you might not know this about me but when I decide on doing something, I'm not letting it go. Persistent Pentland is not a nickname without basis. This Summer I decided I was going to make this happen and so set out talking to Marie and getting going on the dream. We booked a trip for November but due to work commitments, we had to delay it to March.

Since the Summer we have been talking, planning, pinning and researching all things DisneyWorld. We are OBSESSED. Since Darcy has already been to the Magic Kingdom (HERE), I know she'd understand the concept of a Disney holiday and so told her all about it. She doesn't have a grasp of time yet so it's always been, 'When Scarlet (Marie's Daughter) turns 4, it's time to go on Holiday!'. She's pumped.

Then, like some kind of magic curveball, DisneyWorld contacted my management. The dream brand that I have been wanting to work with since forever, sent an invite. They asked if Matt, Darcy and I would like to join them for four days, staying on one of their resorts and touring the parks, in return for vlogs and blogs and all those good things.

I was torn. On one hand its the absolute dream and the exchange seemed perfect to me because I don't think I could ever go somewhere that magical and not document it on every social platform available but then on the other, would it take the shine away from my dream GlitterBits (yeah, I did just ship BitsandClips and Sprinkle of Glitter haha) trip?

We thought about it for a few days and decided to go. You just can't say 'no' to Mickey Mouse and we know that the experiences will both be so different. We are so grateful to have been considered for this opportunity and are giddy with glee to go- twice!! We know it won't take any fizz from the March trip because we have so many treats planned for it and the true joy of it will be to spent time with the Sunshine family (seriously, what kind of a perfect surname for them is that?).

With all that in mind (two Disney vacations in two months), this blog is about to get rather magical! I want to write as many posts as possible because reading other people's thoughts and opinions on the most magical place on earth is one of my favourite things to do in my spare time.

So what would you like to see?

I'll list some ideas below but if you have anymore, please leave them for me and I'll see what I can do.

Alrighty, let me know what you thing!

  50. LOUISE!!!! Have you ever heard of the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique? There's a BBB in each Disney Resort which would be an amazing experience for Darcy and Scarlet, but there's also one in Harrods (which I'm lucky enough to work in and why I'm posting anonymously) and it's right up your street! If you're ever near Harrods its DEFINITELY worth a little peak... (also worth a google)

The packages in the parks are more basic and shorter than the Harrods ones due to the physical activity the kids will do, and the Harrods experience is more exclusive too xxxx

PS. There's a Spiderman pinball machine in the Disney Store in Harrods to keep Matt occupied....

  55. Hi Louise!

I'm absolutely thrilled that you're doing florida/disney blogs!!
I just got back from Walt Disney World in Florida last week and am suffering with MAJOR holiday blues! I have thousands of photos and videos that I'll be posting on my blog soon so keep your eyes out for that!

One thing I find fascinating about the Disney parks are the never ending amount of GIFT shops!! I can never get over how many different items you can actually buy so maybe a gift guide or a disney gifts haul blog?!

Also a recommendation for you trip - if you ever have a 'quiet' non-park day, go to Disney's Boardwalk for a lovely walk and get reservations at BEACHES AND CREAM! The cutest ice cream parlour with the biggest ice cream sundaes :)

Enjoy your trip! Can't wait to read your blogs xx

  56. OMG can't wait! We are disney obsessed and just took our children there over Christmas. It was extra special because we got to go with my parents and siblings. It was like reliving my childhood while seeing everything new through my kids eyes all rolled into one. I have been to Disneyland with my best friend an d her two children a few years back, and we hope to do it again in the future. Have a magical time on both of your trips! Also I highly highly recommend eating at Raglan Road and Sanaa. OMG! Such good food.

  65. Disney is a beautiful experience and I'm sure Darcy will love it no matter you end up doing. In fact, I just came back from my family/family friend vacation there. I will say this, there is so much walking to do that bringing/renting a stroller might be a must. And the fact that it is almost always jammed pack will be something to get use to (even for me, coming from NYC). I can't wait to see the rest of your posts, and I hope you have an awesome stay!

  66. So sad that now I no longer work at Disney you will be going twice in such a short time span. :(
I would suggest with the OOTD's to maybe do a Disneybound day as a family. That would be super cute. If they are offering you a Photopass package (Memory Maker) you could compare that to when you go with Marie and take your own photos while with characters, ex. Does it make the experience more or less stressful? What do you think of the quality of the photos to those you take yourself?
If they offer you the Disney Dining Plan with your resort stay, you could go over how you used yours and what you would or wouldn't change about how you approached it(a lot of people forget about the snacks, or find that it's simply too much food for their family).
I'd also suggest you work on something with Darcy before hand to have the characters sign. Some examples would be to make her own autograph book, or decorate a frame that you can have a mat signed to put inside, or decorate a pillowcase. These are examples of things that will get Darcy involved and, with the exception of the book, will be able to be displayed rather than lie around collecting dust.

As a child I was lucky enough to go from the UK to Disney World Florida ... twice! However On both trips I was old enough to know that it wasn't really Mickey Mouse - it doesn't mean I didn't enjoy Disney World - it was amazing! But it does mean that I'm dreaming of taking my children whilst they are still young enough to believe in all the magic! At 3 and 5 I'm keen to plan something soon!

  99. I am too excited for this! I love Disney too much and have just came back from Disney Paris for the 6th time and have also been to Disney Florida once. All of the potential blog ideas sound amazing - would love to hear about the parades and the fireworks, also maybe a blog on unusual places in the parks - or places people wouldn't think to go. E.g. when I went to Florida I heard about Disney Trading Pins - basically you buy a starter pack (this is for any age) and then you can trade your badges with ANY cast member who is wearing a lanyard with pins on. It's such great fun and you are able to trade for badges that have been bought from all over the world :) sorry for rambling! x

  100. I am really excited for you and your family. I did something of the same thing (I had flown to Disney World with my family and then drove down with my school's music department). Of course, those experiences were completely different if only because on the school trip I got to march in the Spectromagic parade and we got to sing at Epcot and Downtown Disney and do fun little Disney band/choir workshops throughout our stay. But I can definitely see Darcy having so much fun in March, despite having been there not too long before.

Because, let's face it, Who gets bored of Disney?

Anyways, I would mostly love to see everyone's interactions with the characters at the parks.

  106. I'd like to hear your views on the Disney Resorts. Everytime I have been to Disney World, I've stayed in Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Old Key West Resort. Both wonderful resorts, yet so different. I hope you enjoy your stay :)

  124. Can't wait to see all the photos and footage after your trip with Marie! You both come across as such genuine girls, and love that you're not afraid to show your emotions - whether they are good or bad. Sunshine? Is this seriously a surname? If so, it is by far THEE best surname that ever there was!! Please never change Louise, xoxo
