Meeting Princesses | Disney

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

I am just loving writing these Disney posts and sorting through all my pictures, I feel like I am reliving the experience all over again.

On our most recent trip to Disney World (remember how we had one gifted to us by Disney and our next one was previously booked months in advance- it just happened that they were only weeks apart), we were given a Guide to take us round the park and help us with anything we needed. It was amazing! At $400 an hour for a minimum of 6 hours, they are a real luxury but the benefits of having them include - being picked up and dropped off from any location, being able to dine at pretty much any of the restaurants without a reservation, fast pass to every ride, VIP seats for parades and shows, a wealth of insight and knowledge into all things Disney and fast pass to meet all the Princesses.

With a Princess obsessed 3 year old, they were top of our agenda. When I was little we never stood in the queue's to meet anyone because I think my Dad preferred rides, but knowing how much Darcy loves those ladies, I would have waited hours.

I'd already prepped her for maaaaybe meeting one Princess (at this point I didn't know we were going to be given a Guide) but at least seeing all of them in the parades or shows. So Darcy would say, 'When I see Cinderella I'm going to cuddle her all the day and all the night and all the conkers!' (conkers are a measurement to her. ie. 'Mummy I love you as much as all the conkers in the park'). In return, to manage expectations I would say, 'Well, we can see Cinderella in the parades and give her our biggest waves and smiles' and Darcy would be really pleased with that.

Thinking we weren't going to meet any Princesses at all made it all the more special when we met so many (six in total. Or five. Is Tinkerbell a Princess??).

Each Princess is completely in character and will spend a good few minutes with you or your child, talking and chattering about things kind of related to them. So when Darcy said, 'You got earrings on' to Cinderella, she replied, 'Yes I do. Do you know who gave them to me? My Prince Charming of course' and such like. It was brilliant. I was so impressed by them and Darcy was fully immersed in the 'I'm meeting real Princesses' experience.

The Princesses will allow you to film, photograph and touch (as in hugs and Darcy wanted to touch their hair or feel their dress, yanno, innocent touching obviously) them and when asked, will do little video messages for you (we asked several of them to say something to Scarlet BitsandClips which will be revealed this week). I am so impressed that they take so much time with each guest and really give them such magical memories.

Although I didn't have to queue long for these experiences, I think next time I most definitely will line up because just hearing all the little things Darcy wanted to talk about made my Mama heart melt.

If you are ever able to meet the Princesses, some bits of advice I would give are ::

♥ Have two cameras. One for photos and one for filming. If we'd only had one we would have had to pick either or and I treasure the snaps and the vlog footage equally. Disney do have a photographer at each station so if you don't have 2 you can still have the pictures but I like to have my own.

♥ Prep your child so they know who they're meeting and might be able to think of the things they want to say ahead of time. Darcy was a little start struck so just said whatever came into her head but this might be handier for older children.

♥ Be prepared for the Princesses to stay in character even with you. At first it's a bit weird because deep down you know it's an actress but after a while it's just really cool.

♥ Be prepared to cry. Watching Darcy run and throw herself only Cinderella's dress was the sweetest thing I've ever seen. Just to witness pure, innocent, unrestricted, uninhibited joy like that was a privilege and was so, so beautiful.

(When Darcy saw Tinkerbell, she ran, grabbed her legs and stayed like this for a LONG time. It took all of Tink's pixie power to prize her off.)

(Tinkerbell asking Darcy where she got her oh-so-sparkly shoes. *Whispers* Primark).

We are returning to the parks in one week and I think if the lines aren't too cray cray (I've heard it can be up to 5 hours to wait for Elsa and Anna) then we might give it a go. I really wanna get a full length shot of Ariel because I'm annoyed I didn't get her beautiful tail in frame- grr!

What do you think? Would waiting an hour or so to meet the Princesses be worth it to you? If you didn't have a child or young person with you, would you still want to do it? Lemme know because this Princess meeting thing is pretty new to me!

Toodlepip!

  10. It really is worth the wait. For the adults alone! Also a wee tip for you, the Disney photographers are obliged to take photos for you with your own camera. This can be princess meets or any photographers that are floating about on Main St. All you have to do is ask. I can't wait for the reveal this week, tissues at the ready! I hope you all have a magical time xx

  14. When I visited last June, my sister had recently given birth to a little girl and called her Elsa. I met Anna and Elsa at the princess fairytale hall and told them about my niece and they INSISTED on recording a message for her for when she is older. Elsa told her not to be afraid of her ice powers if she inherits them and that she will make a beautiful Princess. It was heart warming and so nice because they didn't have to do it at all!

  24. If you go to Epcot lot of the princesses can also be found in the World Showcase. Aurora is in France, Snow White in Germany, Beauty and the beast in France, Mulan in China and Jasmine with Aladdin in Moracco. The lines tend to be a bit shorter then at Magic Kingdom. Also you should look into doing lunch (bit cheaper then dinner) in Norway because their restaurant has several of the princesses come up to the table and interact with the guest. I've heard it's so much fun and that the food is yummy! Also the fantastic four, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald have a meet and greet area too that most people don't realize. We went last week (one of the busiest weeks of the year) and waited ten minutes to meet the characters, Magic Kingdom the day before was over an hour! I guess most people don't realize the characters are at Epcot too! I hope you guys have a magical trip!

  27. I think it ate my comment so trying again with a bit more detail now I'm not on my phone...

We didn't have to wait more than 30 minutes for anything, there are tricks to this. We followed the advice of easywdw.com which offers free touring plans and recommendations for which parks to go to on which days. We got additional help from the forum and I am so grateful.

It made a huge difference to our trip, especially compared to people we spoke to who only got to do a handful of things each day and spent loads of time queueing. We got to do everything we wanted, met all the characters, some of them more than once, rode our favourite rides multiple times (including the insanely popular Toy Story one in Hollywood Studios which some people told me they queued 4 hours for!).

It's all about picking the right days for the right parks, and knowing which areas to target at which times of day. It was really easy - so don't worry that you'll spend too much time having to be anal about it, we mostly took it as guidelines. A lot of recommendations focused on starting at park opening (rope drop) but we only managed that twice because we like to sleep late. The 3 times (about of 14) we managed it though, were totally worth it since we literally did every 'major' thing in the park by 12 and then had an afternoon of swimming before going to another park in the evening and doing even more things.

The 3 we did for rope drop were a Magic Kingdom day (recommended if you want to avoid insane Anna/Elsa queues), an Animal Kingdom day (the animals on the safari are more active in the morning, we had zebras, rhinos and giraffes so close we could have touched them) and Hollywood Studios (got to ride the Toy Story thing twice with less than 20 mins queue each time, spoke to several people who waited 4+ hours! We would be so ragey with all that queueing!).

TL;DR: Use the advice on days and touring plans from easywdw.com (it is free!) and you will spend a lot more time doing stuff, and a lot less time standing in queues!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh also, make dining reservations at Akershus Banquet in Epcot to have breakfast with the princesses! Pick a later slot (like 11) so it's starting to empty out a bit on a quieter day (see easywdw.com) to get maximum princess time!

And the food at Ohana was amazing, worth a breakfast there if you can, plus you get to meet Stitch and Mickey and co.

Dining reservations can be changed right up to the night before online so worth booking them, if plans change you can cancel them.

If you're an early riser and able to be at the parks for rope drop (8am ish), don't spend that time eating though, have a snack, get loads of fun stuff done, and book a real breakfast for the late morning when the park starts to get busier, about 11 was good for us.

I can go on like this for ages sorry! You'll have a great trip even if you plan nothing but you'll have an even better one with a bit of prep.

  35. I think it's worth it to meet the princesses and I'm 18 with no child. I went to disney two weeks ago and waited 1 hour and 1/2 to met anna and Elsa. I had a fast pass for Cinderella and rapunzel so I didn't have to wait to long for them. There is also a princess breakfast in the Norway pavilion in Epcot where you can meet belle, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, and Snow White. Me and my sister went and it was a lot of fun. You have to make a reservation though. I think meeting the princesses is worth it if you love meeting them as much as I do. :)

  39. I have recently just spent a year (July 2013-July 2014) working at Walt Disney World and this post literally made my heart soar!
As someone that worked closely with the princesses (I helped them clean their dresses and get dressed) and knew some of them pretty well, I can honestly say that those princesses will have ADORED meeting Darcy! They just love little princesses with English accents, and meeting an English princess can make their whole day! Even at 21 years old meeting the princesses is my absolute favourite thing to do at WDW!!! I recommend meeting Merida because she is literally so fun for the kids!

Just a few little tips for you -
When watching Festival of Fantasy (3 o'clock parade) there is a little spot outside the Emporium on Main Street USA that is always shady at that time if it's a little hot for the girlies! Get there early enough to get a spot at the front! Also watching from the very start of Main Street USA (right in front of the flag pole and looking down towards the castle) is amazing, as you see all the floats coming in front of the castle!

Cups of water from all the quick service food and beverage restaurants throughout each park are free. Use this to your advantage when the you all get thirsty!

There are other places you can meet the Princesses and characters! EPCOT at their representative pavillion i.e Belle and Aurora in France, Alice and Mary Poppins in the UK etc. Sometimes there's even characters out in between the UK and French pavillion, recently Rapunzel, John Smith and Jasmin have took a wander to here so keep your eyes peeled as the lines are a LOT shorter! And in Hollywood Studios at the Character Palooza which is in the afternoon (the times change from around 4-6pm - check park maps and times or ask a cast member) in the Streets of America. Here you can meet characters that aren't always out elsewhere - Meeko, Mushu, Pinocchio, Evil Queen, Jafar and of course you'll find different princesses depending on the day but you may find (Little Town) Belle, Mulan, Pocahontas, Tiana and Jasmin.

As you mentioned in a previous post how much you LOVED Saratoga Springs, I recommend resort hopping if you want to be in Disney but don't want to have to deal with a park, you can use the Disney transportation for this. Some of the resorts have the best food places (Art of Animation's food court is my favourite) and they're generally just lovely! If you ever find yourself without the little kiddies, Resort Bar hoping is very fun - as is drinking around the world in EPCOT.

You can book fastpasses now on your Magic Band, so do so - plan your days out using this My Disney Experience app - even when I was a cast member I did this! Animal Kingdom's always very quiet in the afternoon as everyone seems to go in the morning and then leave! If you watch Wishes one night, then don't be afraid to miss it another night, it's always the same - lines are always, always shorter during this time (prime time to meet Anna and Elsa and the other princesses)! Also don't miss out on Disney's Electrical Parade - I worked on this parade so it has a special place in my heart and I know how hard those performers work on it after such a long day doing the other parades too and it's a Disney original parade!

Sorry this post is so long, I just LOVE Disney and have quite a bit of knowledge built up on WDW. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

  40. Darcy is so precious! Seeing these pictures makes me all excited to have kids myself one day :) I feel that waiting for the princesses can be worth it to an extent, with or without kids. I guess for mums and dads, waiting an hour to see their little ones all happy after meeting their favourite princess would be beyond worth it, and I feel like if my child wanted it that much, I'd wait for 5 hours for Anna and Elsa. However, if it was just me waiting for a photo with Anna and Elsa, I'd probably give it a miss and instead stick to the shorter queues but definitely wouldn't mind waiting for around 1 or 2 hours, because that's round about how long you'd wait for most rides at Disney anyway, and meeting the princesses almost seems more fulfilling than 30 seconds on a rollercoaster. :)

  61. Well as a former cast member & frequent visitor of the WDW parks, waiting an hour isn't so bad at all! Most of the time the lines for most characters can range from 10 minutes to 1 hour (except for Anna & Elsa... their wait times have been as high as five hours).

I'm 22 now & I still go meet the characters. Its a true Disney experience. Maybe its just cause I know the parks so well, or am good with time management, but I always get to go on my favorites rides while leaving enough time to meet characters.

I've been going to WDW since I was 2 or 3 years old & go about 3-5 times a year (more during my cast member years) & every single time is just so magical. I can only imagine how it must feel going to the happiest place on earth with your daughter & seeing her eyes light up with all of the sights & sounds. I can't wait to have a child of my own to take to Disney World & experience it all through their eyes. Okay, thats enough emotion for now lol.

I must say that the Rapunzel area is one of my favorites, even if it is just a bathroom. I still have hope that they will expand & make a proper area for her, haha. & out of all the times I've been to Magic Kingdom, I had never noticed Pascal by the water! I'm going there this weekend for my birthday so I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for the little guy.

    Anyways, lovely photos! xx

  68. I recently went to Disney at the beginning of January with my best friend (we are both 25) and we waited to meet Cinderella and Rapunzel for maybe an hour and a half and honestly it was so worth it. Word of advice, if you want to try and meet someone like Mickey without waiting forever wait until Wishes starts and everyone is watching the fireworks because then no one is in line to meet characters. We went straight in to meet Mickey when we went during Wishes! Also, some of the other princesses are just at random locations, we met my favorite (Aurora) outside of one of the picture order shops inside the gate of main town, USA right when you walk in and we stumbled upon her by chance so ask around!!
Really love your channel and all of your Disney posts because I feel like I am reliving my experience too! :) xoxo

  77. This post was so heart warming and lovely. Thank you for sharing these moments with us. In answer to your question, I would wait to see my favourite princesses (Even though im 17) because I grew up admiring them and learnt different things from each of the characters. I wouldn't wait to meet them all but I would want to meet Belle and Jasmine if you can meet them. My cousin would wait for hours to meet Elsa and I would be happy to wait all day just to see the smile on her face when she got to meet her favourite princess. xx Again thank you for this lovely post, I cant wait for more Disney magic to appear on your blog.

  81. I don't think I'd wait that long myself (I mean, wheres Belle?!) & I also wouldn't afford $400, but I think If I had a daughter, I'd wait for her favorite Princess. Maybe not all of them, but if her fave Princess wasn't Belle she would involuntary have to meet her too! haha. Seeing all these vlogs & photos of Disney makes me want to go so much! I only went Paris when I was 5 & not been back since! :(

  102. I'm not going to lie...I cried watching the video of Darcy meeting all of the princesses! I remember being little and my parents would wait in line for hours for me to meet characters. I can promise that Darcy will have INCREDIBLE memories (maybe not of these trips, but ones when she's a bit older) that she will cherish forever.
I'm 20 now and my little sister is 11 and we still love meeting princesses. I have to admit...I got a little starstruck meeting Rapunzel last year! It's quite good fun (Disney's casting is incredible) and the Instagram opportunities are too good to pass up :)

  111. Anna and Elsa at Magic Kingdom suggestion from a DVC member for your GlitterBits Trip:

We went Christmas week (busiest week of the year) and got to the MK gate 30 minutes before opening. We then were escorted (at opening) by cast members down Main Street USA, around the hub, and through Cinderella's castle to the Anna and Elsa line. We were about the 20th people in line. It took us only 30-45 minutes from opening until we had met Anna and Elsa and were back out into the park. When we exited, there was already a 2-3 hour wait for them. We weren't able to get fastpasses but it worked out even better.
