LOTD || Books #4

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Today's LOTD is slightly nerdy- books! I am a self confessed bookworm so I thought it might be nice to bring that into blogland a bit. Wednesday's LOTD can either be a book you have read and enjoyed or a book you plan to/would like to read.

Wednesday will always be : Books.

Today's book will definitely not be to everyone's taste as I suppose it is a 'religious' book, although that's not how I viewed it when I picked it up after a friend told me she read the whole thing in 3 days. 

'Heaven is for real' is the true account of a little boy who whilst in theatre, died, experienced heaven and was then resuscitated by doctors. You might well think the notion of this is a load of old rubbish, but as a believe in God and heaven myself, I found it both fascinating and comforting. 

I won't go on about it too much because I would hate to thrust my beliefs upon you but I thought it was a BRILLIANT read. I read the whole book in one night, found it easy to digest and have since lent it to several other people who also loved it.

I don't know about you, but sometimes I sit for hours just flicking through people's blog posts and watching YouTube videos. One such person I have been flicking through (that sounds kinky and weird) is Lily from What I Heart Today. A blog post of hers that I have LOVED recently was THIS ONE showcasing her Essie nail polishes. 

I am a HUGE fan of Essie polish so seeing all her lovely colours made me VERY tempted to go shopping. Mmmmmm pastels! She's such an enabler dagnamit! If you haven't already subscribed and followed Lily, then you are silly. And I am a poet.....and I did not know it. Tehehe what's gotten into me today??

Happy Monday! Last weeks LOTD series was a HIT! I'm so pleased that so many of you liked it, joined in and found some new blogs through it. 

As you know, Monday will always be clothes.

Ooohhhh today I am lusting after THIS SKIRT from Dorothy Perkins. In summer (if you can call this monsoon a summer) I love pastels, aquas and whites so this ticks all my boxes colour-wise. I am also a big fan of dipped hems as I find them quite flattering and pleats are just floaty and girlie. Yep, basically, I need this skirt in my life and seeing as I am off to town in about an hour, I may pop in and try it on! Yipee!

It's no secret on this blog that I am a whopping great big fan on Etsy. For those that don't know, it is like a gigantic ebay but only for handmade or vintage items and it is quite simply, BEAUTIFUL. I saved the best LOTD til last. The idea is very simple- find a beautiful item for sale on etsy, and tell us so we can be equally impressed!

Well, it's July and I'm just starting to think about Christmas time now. Normal? I doubt it. Organised? Yeah baby!

 

I recently had all my instagram pictures printed off onto little pieces of 2"x2" card and have been looking into new ways of displaying them (like this DIY Collage). I found THESE great little frames with loops that would allow you to thread ribbon through and intend to buy some to put my snaps in. I think they would make really cute customised Christmas tree decorations, lavish gift tags or even table place settings. I find it a little odd that you have to buy the glass separately, but they are pretty affordable and will make a really unique but easy craft project. Yay.

Woop woop, it's Saturday and I'm going out tonight whilst Matt and Darcy are enjoying some time with family in Liverpool. Yay!!

Since Saturday is a kick back and relax kind of a day, I thought it might be fun to have a video. The challenge is to find one video (I'll probably always pick from YouTube but you don't have to) that you like and share it. It can be about anything you like at all, we are free as birds.

Today's video is WEIRD. I can't dress it up as anything other than odd but there is something really compelling about watching it to the end. ZoeChummy sent me the link the other night and I still can't decide if it's real or not but I'll leave it to you to make your own mind up.

I really am enjoying doing the Saturday LOTD because normally I would only ever pop on a beauty/lifestyle/baby video as that is what Sprinkle of Glitter is all about, but I feel like this gives me a little bit of free license- do you mind? Are you ok with random and weird or do you prefer the status quo? Be honest, I don't mind :)

Hmmm, maybe I should have made Friday 'Pinterest' day, because here I am again, with another gem from there! Haha.

 

I think this is something we would all do well to remember from time to time, as it is very easy to get sucked into the humdrum of life and forget that there are people who love us so much.

Everybody has somebody who loves them. Even if you are in the darkest of places, you are not alone. I am very thankful for the love I have from my family, friends and the online community. Ahhh I feel a bit emotional really.

This week I am featuring something that I may have accidentally bought (haha) and am letting through my spending ban by classifying it as a Baby Glitter purchase. 

I recently ordered a Bling It Tool. Eeeppp I'm excited! It's supposedly a brilliant tool to securely adhere gems, crystals and rhinestones to fabric and I intend to jazz up Baby Glitter's little outfits Toddlers and Tiaras style. I actually bedazzled her birthday outfit but after one go in the wash, the crystals came loose and would be dangerous for little fingers and mouths. 

I can't wait for it to arrive and will let you know how I get on.

Today's book is 'The Little Book of Quick Fixes for a Spotless Home'.

I borrowed this from the library and have been engrossed. How sad?! Haha. Basically, it is a chunky little book chocobloc with tips and tricks for keeping your home something a domestic goddess would be proud of. It's not about great long swathes of scrubbing, but little quick things you can do to improve your living space, make the most of what you have and keep your nest beautiful. It covers everything from linens to laptops and would be ideal as a stocking filler (yes, I'm thinking of Christmas ALREADY) or for someone setting up home. I'm actually going to order one for my Mother-In-Law as she is very house proud and would enjoy it.

A really obvious tip that I can't believe I didn't know was- dust from highest surfaces down. Durrr. Why did I not think of this after decades of dusting?! It makes sense seeing as you may be knocking dust off higher places onto lower spaces. I feel so enlightened! Hahaha

This week I have been reading quite a variety of blog posts. I go through phases with my reading preferences. Sometimes I read tonnes of beauty, sometimes lots of lifestyle/Mummy/Baby and other times fashion, but this week has been a mixed bag.

One blog post I found really illuminating was from How Does It Feel and was all about the disease MS. Don't worry, it isn't a sad, makes-you-feel-like-the-world-is-grey post. It is well written, uplifting and as well as educating me about an issue I rather ignorantly knew very little about, it made me feel very grateful for my own blessings.

Hiphip Hooray it's Monday! A fresh week, a chance to wipe the slate clean and achieve new goals. Good luck!

As you know, Monday will always be clothes.

With the wet weather in mind, I decided not to go for floaty girls and pretty dresses. This weekend I was actually in my winter boots practically wading through a bog when I took Baby Glitter to the park. It's July dagnamit!! Today I have chosen these cutsie ankle wellington boots. I love the colour choices and the little bows make them very girlie. I would wear these with leggings or a skirt if I was feeling crazy. Also, and if you are a bit bigger you'll understand this, it can sometimes be a bit tricky to find boots that fit curvier calves, so these would be absolute winners!

This week I have been watching a lot of feel-good videos rather than tutorials and hauls (I'm on a spending ban and they are far too tempting for my oh-so-weak willpower) and there is one in particular that I have watched AT LEAST five times, I LOVE it.

Joey Graceffa and Tanya Burr got together whilst she was in LA and made us all a super jolly music video that just makes me want to put on a dress and bop about. You can't not feel a bit cheery after watching it!

This week I have ummed and arred about what to pick as I have been lusting after quite a few things lately, but decided to go for something particularly British Summer appropriate! This gorgeous giraffe print scarf would be perfect for wrapping round you in cooler evenings or sudden downpours, but is also light enough to drape over shoulders on warmer days. I think I love it best in navy, but stone comes in a close second. I do love a good scarf. I don't know why but they make me feel just a bit more shielded and less vulnerable. Is that weird? Probably!

I pondered over this one for a while. Should I go back and share one of my old blog post favs or should I pick something up to date and relevant? I wanted to go for a post that I remember reading and feeling really inspired by but then I thought, 'Hmmm I'm not sure if this is what everyone will enjoy'. It didn't take me too long to decide to go with my instinct. Sometimes I suppose I will say or post things that aren't everyone's cup of tea, and sometimes I don't fit in with the up to date trends and whatnot, but isn't that the beauty of blogland? Blogs are like pick'n'mixes of sweets and you can load up on which ever ones suit your taste. Don't like chocolate covered brazil nuts? No problemo, help yourself to the jelly beans! 

Anyhoo, the blog post I'd like to share today was written some time ago by a Portuguese blogger called Concha and is all about Charity Shops. Reading this post makes me want to forage around for hidden treasures and quaint books. I think I love it more because it is written by someone who is not native to the UK. I absolutely love looking at British life through Concha's eyes and more often than not she makes me appreciate my surroundings a lot more. Her blog makes me want to visit the Lake District or pick the flowers from my very English (my way of saying wild and unruley) garden.

Today I have choosen this mermaid costume for babies to share. As you may have noticed from Monday, I have been obsessing over all this under the sea of late and this really tickles my pickle. The seller ony lists costumes up to 9months but I'm very tempted to ask if she would make one a little bigger for Baby Glitter, just so I can take cool photographs of her! Hahaha.

How are you enjoying these LOTD's so far? I'm rather enjoying writing them :)

I chose this video as it is one that I have watched about 5 times and adore. It makes me realise that there is so much joy, hope, happiness in the world, but sometimes it is clouded by all the sad things we see in the news and read about in papers. I hope this couple live harmoniously together for years and years and sit in hover-rocking chairs (it's the future, anything can happen) and tell their grandchildren about this proposal adventure.
