Aloha Bloggerinos,
I must confess, I am always vveeerrryyyyy excited when Sleek MakeUp send me a surprise package- it is such a blogging perk and I don't think I'll ever get to the stage where I'm blase! Poor Matt is getting a bit sick of, "Look!! LOOOKKK! Look what came to review!!" hahahaha!
This time, sleek have sent through their latest product, released on the 3rd of August , POUT PAINTS.
Pout Paints are little tubes of superduper pigmented lip colour that dry with a satin finish. You can use just one on your lips or mix them up (like a scientist) to make any colour you like. There are 11 colours in total- lots to choose from.
Concept sound familiar? They remind me A LOT of OCC Lip Tars. Goes on like a gloss, dries like a lipstick, uber pigmented and a little goes a long way. The great thing is, OCC is pretty hard to get over here and twice the price (Pout Paints retail for £4.99), so it's a winner for us English rose's.
With the lids off they look like little craft paints. Sleek suggest using your finger or a lip brush to apply. I'd go with the brush otherwise you're going to end up with multicoloured digits..unless of course that's your thing :)
These are the four colours I was sent dolloped (mmm lovely word 'dollop') onto a plate. My Mother-In-Law described my dinner plates as 'tired'. Sigh. I happen to love my tired IKEA cheapo plates very much. Yeeeaahh, I'm defensive over plates!
Colours shown here are:
White - 153. Cloud Nine
Purple- 154 Mauve Over
Blue- 163 Peek-A-Boo
Red- 157 Pin Up
I used a cotton bud to mix together various amounts of colours to see what I could make. I really thoroughly enjoyed this part! I felt like a kid again!
I must say, with the colours I had to hand, it was pretty tricky to make a colour that I would wear. Saying that, if I were a Makeup Artist or wore a lot of editorial styles, I think this would really suit- where else will you find sky blue to your exact specification lip products for such under a tenner??
Whilst messing about with the colours I made this dusky pink which on plate, I really loved, but as you can see from my rather poorly applied to lips below, it wasn't for me. Saying that, I think some girls would reeallly suit it and look fabulous with this hue.
I did however like the second colour I concocted, which was Mauve Over, Peek-A-Boo and a touch of Cloud Nine.
Also, just to let you know, I applied a layer of lip balm before the paint. I like to give you the full picture! haha.
POUT PAINT PROS
+ Price- £4.99 is affordable. I will absolutely be purchasing a few more colours to have a play with. I really love the idea of making my own colour, that nobody else will have (unless they use the EXACT same quantities to make the shade) and popping it in my own little pot.
+ Unique- I think this is quite an unusual product. The only similar thing I have seen are the OCC Lip Tars.
+ Accessible- As mentioned above, Lip Tars in England are hard to find, so it's great that we can all pop along to Superdrug, or the website, and have a browse.
+ Longevity- I was impressed at how long these stayed on for, non of this one-lick-and-it's-gone business!
+ Versitility- You could create new shades every day! Afterall, they say variety is the spice of life ;)
POUT PAINT CONS
- I applied with the cotton bud I had to hand because I wasn't too worried about neatness (I was only at home and messing about), but this is not a product you could apply on the go. You would need a mirror and brush and if you were to use your fingers, a wet wipe.
- If you were a makeup artist and looking for really crazy colours like green or black, these wouldn't be able to make it but I'm not and I haven't seen many a gal with green lips, so this isn't a biggie! Plus, Sleek could well bring out more colours.
- They are messy! You would have to spend a little bit of time at home creating your colour and decanting into a container. Personally, I like this, but I can see some might find it a chore.
All in all, I REALLY like this idea and these paints. I think it's really cool to bring the fun back into makeup and gives us all a chance to have a bit of playtime.
Do these float your boat or do you prefer something quick and easy?
Toodlepip!
xx
Ooooh I love that second pink shade you made, looks gorgeous! Fab review once again Louise :) xxx
ReplyDeleteWow these look so much fun and would be amazing for those who love artsy fartsy things. creative idea to mix up your own lip colour, absolutely fab! thanks for the review xxx
ReplyDeleteI wish I had Sleek in Canada, sounds like a cool concept and I never knew you could mix OCC Lip Tars. I would rarely have time to mix them though but I really love the second lip combo.

I love that hot pink colour! x

Ahh these look so cool, definitely going to have a look at them! Not quite sure what you'd say if people asked what lipstick you had on though lol! xx
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! Personally a bit of a faf, but when i'm in one of my 'don't care how long this takes' moods I think I would thorougly enjoy mixing and matching the colours. A great post again, you have a way with words! Your posts are always so fun to read:D
ReplyDeleteThese are such a good idea! Will HAVE to try! :) xx
ReplyDeleteOhh i love the idea of mixing your own shade!
ReplyDeleteWill have o go and have a gander and what they have to offer, thanks for the review lou!

Love the second colour you made :) Dont think i would be able to use them im not great with things like that. Great review :)
ReplyDeleteLauren xx
I love both the pink colours but I can see what you mean, I wouldn't suit the first one either! Still gorgeous though. These look great but I'm sort of put of by my lack of artistic skills. It's a great fresh take on lip colour though, maybe I'll try them when I'm a little bored of the norm :) xxx

i wouldn't have thought that it looked that good applied. i like the idea of mixing a lot!!
ReplyDeleteI think this is great for people who likes to play with make up and all the possibilities these little tubes brings ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm not a lip product girl, I think all the colors at the market look bad on me LOL
I hope you continue enjoying this balms.
Kisses.
I love this idea! and how affordable they are :D xx
ReplyDeleteoh god! i want these so badly! too bad they arent sold in America! :(
ReplyDeleteI was sent these too, love them! I've already started to find it a bit of a chore though. They take so long and unless you use a lot and keep it in a container, you'll never be able to make the same colour again :( x
ReplyDeleteThey're such a good idea! I might just have to take a small diversion into town some time...
ReplyDeleteSophie ox.
I think they are a nice idea i don't think i would want to have to mix up a colour every time i wanted to wear it and you probably won't be able to make the same colour again! Lovely post my lovely Louise! Loves ya! xxxx
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how wearable some of the colours are but I love the idea that you could have your own unique shade because others probably won't mix the colours to get the exact shade you have :) xx
ReplyDeleteThey look like a right nightmare to me!! DO they smell bad?? like paints?? and will tehy actualy stay on?? x
ReplyDeleteOh, I love these! They look very fun, but perhaps not all that convenient. :P Unfortunately, neither these nor the OCC lip tars are accessible to my country :( And now that you mention it, multi coloured digits are very much my thing! ;) xx
ReplyDeleteI really do like, are this only for the u.k?

xoxo
I love this idea!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried OCC Lip Tars, but these Sleek "Paint Pouts" seem like such a better alternative since they are cheaper and come in bigger tubes!
I can see where it would be a pain to sit down every morning and mix a color if you were in a hurry, but I think these are fab for makeup artists!
Ps, Congrats on your 3,000 followers Louise-erino!
You deserve each and every one of them because you are a FABULOUS blogger & have such a great personality!
I hope you're enjoying having Matt back around, and I hope he enjoyed his trip to Costa Rica! Perhaps you should do a video interviewing him about it ;)!
love the post :)i'm so excited to get my hands on some of these they look like so much fun :) xxx
ReplyDeleteAhh when I first saw this I was thinking who would put bright blue on their lips, or the bright white... but once you mixed them I loved it. Love the idea of creating my own special lip colour each day :) You made me chuckle about the plates you have every right to get defensive their YOUR plates.. the joys of in-laws eh haha x x x
ReplyDeleteThat second pink is gorgeous, I need it!xx
ReplyDeleteThe concept of theses are really cool looks like i might get some :)
ReplyDeleteSo excited to try these! The second shade is lovely!xx
ReplyDeleteI think these are such a great idea! I've never heard of either of the brands mentioned, so I think I may have to buy a couple of these and have a go at mixing them myself to see what I can come up with!
ReplyDeletethese pout paints look great, i can't wait to get my hands on some! the colours you made were lovely :)
ReplyDeletehttp://openboxjewels.blogspot.com/ xx
love the look of these! i've always wanted to try the OCC lip tars but i have never been able to get my hands on them. i love the way you can mix these to create new shades. can't wait to give them a try xxx
ReplyDeleteThese look like a lot of fun and would be great for me as they last on the lips, I always forget to reapply lippy! I don't know if I could pull these colours of tho =/ The second colour looks fantastic on you xo
ReplyDeleteLove the second colour! Wow, I'd love to get my hands on these, will take a look this weekend xx
ReplyDeleteI really like the second color on you. I myself isn't a lipstick girl, and when I do wear it, it is mostly nudes.
ReplyDeleteI love the bright pink on you, can you mix these pout paints with different things?
ReplyDeleteI really like this idea, but I know what I'm like mixing colours I'd end up with a disgusting green/brown lip hehe xx
ReplyDeleteOoooohh! I love the second pink lippy, looks gorg! I don't think these would be an idea product for me, as I prefer to take my makeup with me, and this just wouldn't cut the mustard for my liking!
ReplyDeleteGreat post Lou!
xxxxx
These look sooo good, I will need to try them! But blue? And green? It's a bit odd for a lip colour imo :)
