Motivational Monday #5

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

How on earth is it mid February? Surely we were all shouting, 'Happy New Year!' about three minutes ago? Apparently not.

Well, now I have a firm grasp (just about) of time, it's Monday! Hurray! I know, I know, most people loathe Mondays but honestly, I love them. They are a time of renewal, of fresh starts and unspoiled goals. A time to draw a line under the things we messed up/didn't achieve last week and try again. Monday's are a clean slate.

Motivational_Monday

Do you ever feel a bit like you spend half your life trying to be cool? I do. I regularly wish I could suck back in the weird thing I've just said or not have made the unfunny joke or not done a little dance when over excited or not laughed so loudly or not told Kylie Minogue about the imaginary island in my head that I've been building since I was seven (true story). On a daily basis I try to be breezy. I try really hard to be as 'normal' and good as everyone else and pretty much every time I'm met with failure. My inner weird just gets out.

To clarify, I'm not talking about that oh-so-desirable 'weird' that you might call 'quirky'. I'm talking about an inability to edit my thoughts-words and a scewed sense of what is socially acceptable.

I'm giving up. I'm not breezy. I'm slightly neurotic. I like fast responses to texts. I like my imaginary island. I like sucking crisps. There.

This week I urge you to let your inner weird out. I know it's in there. I know you secretly do a lot of weird sh*t and I know you want to do it freely. Wouldn't a world of freely weird women be better than hoards and hoards of stressed out repressed crazies? Yes. It would.

Edit yourself less. You think that joke is funny? Say it. Even if you're the only one that laughed, at least someone did!

Argh! If I could whip off my bra and run with free abandon through a meadow to make my point I would. Just know that I am typing very hard on my keyboard to really emphasise my point!!

Run wild my sparkly weirdos!!! I love you!!!

Toodlepip!

xx

  5. My jokes, or funny tip bits of information, (well I find them amusing anyway) are often met with silence so it is nice to know I am not alone! Is now also an acceptable time to admit I dislike Jelly Babies..... Well I have done it now anyway :P

  10. Thanks Louise! I have been feeling recently like I can never say the right thing, and that I am always mucking up my words, but as you say, we need to embrace all our quirks and weirdness, if only for ourselves! :)

  13. Thank you very much Louise! I've been "editing myself" quite a lot in the past couple of years and I couldn't regret it more, actually. Now, when I let my inner weirdness out, it turns out that my it's not THAT weird at all. It looks like deep inside, we're all weirdos, aren't we? Anyway, thanks again for this blogpost, I feel like the words "be yourself" should be repeated everywhere and all the time, because there are too many people who don't follow that rule yet. Also, when it comes to me personally - I still need that kind of reminder sometimes :)

  18. Yesterday I made a decision i had been thinking about for a while. I wanted to start my own blog, i wanted to have a place on the internet where i could say and do what i wanted. I never thought I'd actually do it, but I did. I'm excited! I don't know what 'chipsorchocolate' will bring, but I'm excited. Your blogposts never fail to get me excited for something, and that's what i love so much about you. You're not weird, Lou. If you are, every single one of us is. and if everyone is, it's not weird, right? It's adorable. This glitter community is the best, in sooo many ways. (yes, i do realise how cheesy that sounds)

  20. I was always known for embracing my weirdness throughout my school life and some people thought this was a reason to stay away from me or talk about me but the people who really mattered, my friends and family, love my quirks and always encouraged me to be who I was. I soon realised that those people who stayed away from me were scared of not fitting in and I actually feel sorry for them. Love your differences, they make you who you are, even if it does mean you lick all the flavour off your Pringles before you eat them.

  21. I wish I was more confident when I am around people I am close with I act myself but when I am at college and my class is all talking I sit quietly because when I talk in front of people my face goes red and I just seem to embarrass myself. This even happens when there is only four of us in the class on Tuesday mornings. I wish I was more normal to be able to talk to people.

I admit I am a little on the loopy side and I think its definitely the best way to be, whether other people agree with me or not - its their loss. What I LOATHE though is when people try and supress my weird kooks or turn their nose up at me - they are in no way better than me because they keep their bazaar thoughts in their head but how they act like they are superior gets me every time, leaving me wondering if I should be less unusual and more 'normal'. GRRR! To that I say - BORE OFF. I enjoy being a little off key and fun, if that isn't your bag then that's cool too, just don't try to undermine me :)

  63. This is perfect!!! As a fellow weird person I understand completely. After moving to a new city a few years ago and wanting to "fit in", but realizing I felt disingenuous and unhappy, I decided to let the weird run free. Living with all-out authenticity even if it's weird has been such a joy. I find people just take me for what I am, and simply accept the weirdness because they know it's genuine. It also makes other people comfortable letting their weird out - and then we're all just feeling free and happy!!

  73. Well, this post let me thinking for a moment... you're right, Louise. We all have that inner weird inside us and most of the time I try to keep it inside and don't let it jump to the outside and be free because I want to be "accepted by the society" and it sucks to try your hard waiting a thumbs up from everybody because you want to fit in.
Now, I'll stop pretending be someone I'm not. I'll let my inner weird free and if someone likes it, perfect; if someone doesn't like it, bad for you, I won't change!

I agree completly with you and most times I honestly just don't care and say and do everything that crosses my mind (apropriate things), but also sometimes I feel like people (including some of my frinds) just think that I'm stupid and then I feel sttupid... Why can't society can't just accept "sparkly weirdos"??

    ReplyDelete
  84. The thing is that we're all weird inside and we all try to look "normal". When in society, you try to act "normal" and everybody seems so not weird at all. And you just feel like you're the only freak in the area when everybody is just kind of crazy but try as hard as you to look and sound acceptable. Does that make any sense? I don't know.

  105. YEEES!!! :D
You know what my best friend said to me on Saturday? When she first met me during high school she avoided me because she hated my loud laugh, weird sense of humour and weird dances I always do. But now that she knows me for 6 years, she said that those are the things she loves about me the most! :D
I think that is the point of everything- be yourself and find people who will love you for that, that's the path to happiness! (I'm soo deep oh-lala)

  108. You make lots of people laugh Louise, in a good way of course! It's normal to be weird and I know I have contradicted myself but where's the fun in doing actions that are socially acceptable because we all need to express who we are at some point. Fab post, these 'Motivational Mondays' never do get old even if I am reading it on a Tuesday haha! :) xx

  112. I consciously try to be abnormal on a daily basis. Your right, if we don't let our freak flag fly once in a while, we will explode. Who knows, maybe someone else will laugh with you as well.

  127. I absolutely loved everything about this! I am the quirky (not the cute kind) of girl as well and I have crude humor and virtually no censor and that is when I feel my best! I feel my best when I am not subduing the things that I say so that it is more socially acceptable (okay, this is sounding a bit out of control, I censor myself in front of old women and men, and sometimes children). I think that is why I like you so much. People don't think that funny women who say whatever comes to mind are attractive, and personally I think it makes you more beautiful (you as in everyone). You're gorgeous, smart, AND funny. Triple threat. Thank you for being awesome for being YOU. <3

  129. Oh my I needed this.School these days is just starting to sicken me because its all about your level of 'cool & popularity' do one weird thing and you'll never hear the end of it.I hate when people just can't let go and have a little fun,who cares about peoples opinions? Lets just let go and have a bit of fun!! :) You go Louise x

  130. YAY! Such a happy blog post :) I'm really pleased and slightly surprised as I've started to care a lot less what people think about me, which I feel is always a good thing. This post just reinforces my new-found carefreeness (apparently that isn't a word but it should be)!

  135. I loved this weeks Motivational Monday. I've always dealt with the issue of letting my inner weird out or keeping it to myself due to social standards/expectations whatever. But I think letting your inner weird out is being you and healthy. It's a big part of who myself and others are.
