My Sweet Valentine

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

With it being the 14th of February I am unashamedly going all out on the loveydovey today. Move over cynics, I'm coming through.

This is my Valentine, my husband Matt.

We've been together 8 years, married 3 and parents for 2. Some years have been incredible, some years alright and some years very challenging.

What impresses me most about Matt is that he in unwavering in his love for me and even in the midst of huge fights (where I'm being just horrible), he will say, 'because I love you'. Matt will always let me win a row, always let me choose the film, always let me sleep in the car and always offer to get the baby up on a weekend.

I know I talk about how grateful I am for things on here, because when I type them it's as though I'm just telling myself, but I so rarely tell Matt and in 2014 and making a conscious effort to let him know that I love the way he treats me like a lady, love that he will get up in the middle of the night to check the window is locked because I get freaked out, love that he will offer to drive hours to my friend's houses and love the way he loves me back.

It's sickening, I know, but after a very difficult 2013, I feel a like we are falling in love with each other all over again. Makes me want to do a little cry in the hotel room I am typing this from. Good grief.

Well, I am well and truly disgusted at my out burst of emotion and hope you haven't lost your lunches.

Seriously though, he's such a gem.

I hope you have found your gem's this Valentines or are being rebels and throwing two fingers up at convention and eating pizza with friends (which is how I spent many a February 14th!)

Let me know what you're doing in the comment, I love to nose at your lives.

Toodlepip!

xx

  13. It is my first year in 4 valentines days alone, simply because I am at university and my boyfriend has to work at home! So to cheer me up my friend is coming over and we are going on a night out! However I did get a beautiful bunch of roses and a bottle of champagne from my boyfriend, who is amazing, and I can't get over how well he treats me! <3

  26. Aww, you two are so sweet! In Finland, Valentine's day is actually called "friends' day" so I'm spending the evening with some friends. I think the whole idea of friends' day is quite nice, there's less pressure because you don't have to stress about finding a date or do something big and romantic. :)

  27. Happy Valentine's Day Louise! What a wonderful post - it's obvious that you love each other very much, despite the ups and downs. Have a lovely day :) My boyfriend is coming down (we are long-distance) and I am making my very first savoury pie for him, and Oreo brownies. We're not big on valentines day, and since we're so far apart just seeing each other will be our gift :) xxx

  34. Aww Louise I love reading your blogs, especially when you can tell you are just tapping out pure emotion. My husband and I always say "Valentines day, meh" we never make a conscious effort to celebrate but somehow we find ourselves snuggled up with a film and goodies on this day every year. We have been married 6 years this year and I can totally say i'm with you on the challenges the commitment of marriage brings through the years but we always pull through because like yourself and Matt we have the number one top priority to a happy relationship... Love.
Love conquers all (and all that mushy jazz)
Enjoy your day. Lots of love, Clare xx

  93. My boyfriend doesn't understand makeup or the excitement of it. When i put my face on in a morning, as i 'powder my nose' he'll say "paint paint paint paint paint" "brush brush brush" "shuffle shuffle" with every stroke i do. He text me yesterday saying that he'd been into town to collect my gift that he'd ordered into a shop online. And it wasn't there, so he asked if we could go to town today to get it. So i said yeah sure, that's fine! Anyway, this morning he asked me to nip downstairs to get his "order number" from his coat pocket. Inside his coat pocket was a beautifully wrapped present with purple ribbon with "UD".... i squeeled and ran upstairs "WHATS THAT!?!" so he said open it open it i dont know what is it?!!?!!!! I wripped the first part of paper off and revealed the Urban Decay naked pallet. I HAVE NO IDEA. How did he know i wanted that?!?!!? And he's a right cheeky one making up a little lie haha. My visa application is also alone somewhere in Sheffield and soon we'll be receiving a decision that will affect our lives more than anything else ever has. I am struggling to keep everything together through this process, but the light that is my husband is guiding me through it. You and Matt are an absolutely beautiful pair. I wish you all the best in everything that is to come in your life. I'm so happy your hard year has come to an end, and I hope that mine is as well (a bit late but it will do!)

  104. Ahhh that is the sweetest post <3 You and Matt are so cute! I love the way you talk about him, that's true love hehe. This Valentines I'm away from my husband unfortunately. Well I should say he's away from me due to work... I only get to see him every other weekend which stinks! But I love him so and we celebrated last weekend <3

    Love your blog!

  106. You guys are so sweet, and you make such a great couple! Honestly, I'm not into the whole Valentines Day thing (I'm sure I will be when I actually have a Valentine) but this post wasn't too sappy at all! He he I am the same way, and I love to see happy endings in regards to finding "the one."
I spent the whole day at a high school pool, because it was districts for my swim team! It was probably one of the most unromantic ways to spend the day, but at least I got to spend it with some of my greatest friends!
Hope you had a great Valentines day!

  115. My friend Emma was home alone and so yeeahhh what do you do if your parents are out of town on 14/02? You invite your friends and have an amazing night. My friend Fleur and I came over and we had so much fun. Cooking, watching High School Musical, eating a lot of Ben & Jerry's, trying to film a video, and just having a great time. Staying up all night with the best friends in the world is all I could ask for. well, maybe i'd like to have a Matt in my life...

He seems like such a genuine guy and I feel like these kind of guys are becoming more difficult to come across. You, Matt and Darcy are just the cutest family and it makes me incredibly happy seeing how happy you are to have both of them in your life. I hope you had a good Valentines Day and hope there are still many more to come for the two of you!

We had a lovely time having a romantic meal at home together, eating good food watching moulin rouge and a glass of wine or too. He suprised me with flowers and chocolates and wine which he go at 2 in the morning so it would be a suprise when I woke up. Can't wait till we get married :)

  160. Hi Lou, i must admit, this made me well up a little ! i think your little family is wonderfull and you should be very proud. I have been with my Fiance for coming up to 8 years also, and i totally agree with you about the good and bad times. We portray only a certain amount of our relationship and i think people forget it is jsut as normal to have bad times as it is to have good times. being with my fiance since we were 14 meant that we kind of grew up together, wich meant falling inlove with the person we had both become. I think as time passes , you do get to stages where you fall back inlove with your partner ...what a wondefull feeling. we are lucky ladies :D

I have written a valentines Blog on what i got up too and my views n the actual day, take a look :D xxx
