Motivational Monday #9

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Merry Monday to you. If you live in the UK, I hope, like me, you enjoyed the gorgeous weather this weekend. If you live somewhere else, tell me where in the comments. I'm fascinated by how wide this Glitter Family might be across the globe.

Talking of globes (ooohh smooth transition there), this week I am digging out my passport and jetting off to Orlando, Florida, to attend a YouTube convention called Playlist Live.

I'm nervous. I'm excited and grateful and motivated but I'm nervous. It doesn't matter where I go in the world or who I go with but I always suffer from a little bit (or a lotta bit) of home sickness. I read somewhere recently that 'extreme adult home sickness' is a thing and was relieved to see I wasn't just being pathetic. I won't go into it too much because I think that's for another post (if you want it?) but yep, I get anxious about leaving home/my home people and it sits along side my excitement.

Saying all that, I 90% of the time, say 'yes' to going on trips. I go because I know they are good for me. I come back so proud of myself and with a whole heap of new memories and amazing experiences in the bag (not to mention photos and videos!). I meet new people, see old friends and fully step out of my comfort zone.

This week and some of next I won't be blogging (except for the things I have scheduled) as I will be dancing around outside of my comfort zone and urge you to try it too. No matter how big or how small, I would love for you to force yourself out and come along with me on a scary yet exhilarating challenge!

Let me know in the comments how you get on <3 p="">

Toodlepip!

xx

  1. Cyclone Lusi here in New Zealand. Wet and windy :( Spent the weekend catching up on uni work, doing chores, painting nails and watching movies. All in all a very good weekend. Enjoy your trip Louise and well done for being so brave!!! Thank you so much for your posts! They're so enjoyable, it makes my day seeing you've posted! Much love from the other side of the world! xx

  2. I live in New Jersey (about 15 min from NYC) and although Saturday was beautiful, sweater weather, Sunday was quite freezing and Monday we may have some flurries of snow. And as far as trips or vacations, I love the planning and researching and learning new things but I find it harder to do the smaller, closer to home - type things. I tend to stay home when someone asks me to go to a movie or dinner. I really have to kick my butt to go because I know in the end I'll enjoy it.

  5. I live in Venezuela, if you watch the news you may know what's going on over here. Even though we're going through a tough time, everything that's happening keeps me hopeful :) at night it gets more dangerous, so we have to stay home and I try to escape from it all for just a few minutes, reading posts like yours really helps :)
I hope you enjoy your trip Louise! Have a wonderful time!!!

  10. I'm from Estonia. Our weather has gone crazy. The day before yesterday is was so sunny and warm, no snow left, about 6° C and suddenly yesterday it started snowing and then it melted a bit and then it got cold. So now it is super freezing again and it's like ice rink out there.
Thank you for your posts Louise, I would be lying if I said they didn't motivate me :) Enjoy your trip! xx

  11. I live in southern Australia and after a very hot summer, our weather has become pleasant with days where it's in the mid to high 20sC. (compared to January and February with days of 40degrees plus! A wee bit warm!) I love to travel, particularly being able to experience new places. I love the fact that our world is big and combined with an adventurous spirit I'm happiest when planning my next trip!!!

  12. Hi Louise :) I'm from Melbourne in Australia and it was, well, typical Melbourne weather. Sunny, then windy, then rainy, then sunny, then grey skies with three minute bursts of rain every ten minutes. Just can't make up its mind, can it?

  17. Hello Louise, I'm from a little island called Singapore and the weather here has been pretty hot and very dry. It looked like (autumn) for the past two months or so. We don't get to feel what snow or fall is like here except for just rain and sun. Finally to end the hot and dry weather it rained over the weekends after a very long time and its still is off and on. Enjoy your trip louise and hope to hear all the excitement about the trip soon.. Kisses from Singapore xoxo

  21. I'm from Norway but studying abroad. I definitely know what you mean, I often feel homesick but all the amazing memories and friends I've made here makes it all worth it. After three years I can say it's getting better, but there are days when the only thing I want to do is lie under my bed sheets and watch tv shows but I think that's normal and nothing a skype call home can't fix. I would actually love to read a blog post about how homesickness is for you when you have time. :) Thank you for your blog posts, Louise! xx
(oh, and in poland it's currently raining. we've had a couple of nice days with sun though so it's ok)

  23. Seems to be a few Australians on here! I'm from Sydney, though I've called the U.S., NZ, and Singapore home at different points. The weather in Sydney is currently really weird, we keep on going from hot to cold, to tropical storms. It's a bit odd.
I actually have the opposite problem in regards to traveling, I start to feel anxious if I live in one place for too long, my family is really the only place I'd call home.

  29. I'm from Estonia (yes, we have electricity(pretty much 4G internet all over the contry haha beat that) and no we do not live in huts) and I love this post for one massive reason: I'm most likely going to study abroad next semester and it freaks me out. I applied because my older sister had the chance to study abroad and said how amazing the experience is. I can't live lower than that. I won't! So I pushed myself and now when I know there is big chance of me going I get anxious. I can't even imagine what happens if I'm about to go...But thanks for encouraging me and everybody else to step out our comfort zone.

    Love you Motivational Mondays!! x

Hello from Cologne, Germany :) Our weather was shitty so I grabbed my parents (they were in town for a visit, or better to check out if the little girl is doing good ;) ) and we headed to Essen to the Museum Folkwang. There we visited a wonderful Karl Lagerfeld exhibition. By the way I can recommend the restaurant next to the museum...just if there's someone out there planning to go, too :)

I know that feeling you have about leaving home. I'm always super excited until the day I mean to leave draws nearer and I have the strongest wish of stepping out of the journey or whatever. That's really something I need to work on!

I really love your motivational monday series! I've been stepping out of my comfort zone recently by being happy (yeah, that does sound weird), as I have concluded that I spent too much time wallowing in uncalled for self-pity...
Hope you have a great trip and manage the home-sickness well, I'm sure you will be with many beautiful friends to help you along! xx

  43. I may be going to Thailand this summer with my two friends from uni! I'm so scared because it's a country I've never been to, I usually go to the Philippines where I have family so the locations are pretty similar, except in Thailand I don't really have a back-up or people to help us if something goes wrong, but I've decided to just go with the flow and stay positive! I think researching and being organised is the key!

  47. I have the same thing...on one hand I absolutely love travelling whilst I'm there but go through stages of 'out of my comfort zone'. In the end, it's really not great to let yourself weighed down by negative thoughts and you only get one life, you might as well fail or win but at least you tried! At least that's what I tell myself hahah

I'm from Johannesburg, South Africa, and over the past few weeks most of our homes have become soggy & damp from all the rain (some SA provinces up north even experienced devastating floods). 84. Hello, Louise! I live in the US, and I'm from Cleveland, Ohio. The Glitter Family sure is expansive!
Next week I will be pushing myself, no, HEAVING myself out of my comfort zone as I will begin taking driving lessons. I'm nearly 20 years old, have suffered with severe anxiety for my entire life, and have therefore become dependent on my family members to take me to work every day. It's awful and I'm sick and tired of not being able to do things on my own, so as much as it petrifies me, I will begin learning to drive! I know it will be good for me, and it'll be my first step to a new and exciting life as an independent lady.

  123. I live in Norway, as I have for most of my life. I did live in Iowa for a year for school and it was amazing. I missed my parents like crazy, but I had my best friend with me and I made some fantastic friends over there so it was all worth it. If I could have chosen something different, I probably would have studied there for four years, instead of just one.
I often have a really hard time stepping out of my comfort zone, but I'm trying to get better at it. It was actually a lot easier in the US because people would just come up and talk to me, or drag me along to things, not giving me enough time to think and say no like I normally would have. And thanks to them I am now a much stronger person than I was, and I deal with things that happen a lot better.

  124. Hi Louise
I'm in Brisbane, Australia. This morning it's a bit grey, but very humid and it's supposed to be about 30 degrees Celsius. It's actually the beginning of Autumn, so it feels a little bit wrong for it to still be humid and hot.
I also get anxious when I go away from my home. I get worried about my family (and my kitty). I hope you have a fabulous time in Orlando :)

  125. I live near Philadelphia, but spent Saturday down the shore (at the beach in New Jersey), which was gorgeous. Of course it snowed today. I'm very tired of snow. I'm hoping to move to the UK, so I guess the horrible winter was getting me ready for it.

I am the exact same way - trips usually stress me out so much to the point that I consider canceling them right before every single time! I never do though, and I'm always glad because I usually end up having a great time! I just always get that silly anxiety for no real reason but I get over it quickly. I hope you have a great time at Playlist! I was in Florida last spring break as well, but I wish I was going back this year! It was so much fun.

  190. Totally agree with this. I spend a hella load of money on all things beauty and clothes but at the beginning of the year I thought I'm only going to be young once, I have the money and nothing tying me down so it seems silly to keep spending it on material objects when there's a whole world out there to explore.
