Clarins Spring Summer 2013

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

If you are a hardened beauty junkie like me, you will understand how I feel when I tell you that I think makeup is beautiful. As well as assisting in achieving beauty, I often feel that the products themselves are things of great visual delight and the Clarins Spring Summer Collection* is no exception.

I have not yet tried all of these products and the ones that I have will feature in next weeks FOTD with mini reviews, but I felt that this treasure was too lovely to not photograph and feature, as much for it's 'hey, here's a new collection' as for it's art. Yes, I decided it to be a form of art. Call the Tate, I'm coming in.

Palettes beautifully encased in gold, lipsticks reminiscent of the 1940's and powder pots you'd be pleased to display on your dresser, this collection is gorgeous.

With prices ranging from £15.50-£30, I'm excited to share reviews next week and enjoy these pieces throughout the next season.

Are you excited by any of these? Do you feel the same way about glamorous packaging? If you're on pinterest, do feel free to pin any of these images.

Change

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

I have been editing some of Baby Glitter's photographs for our family album and I couldn't help but share one of them.

Darcy is like a tonic. No matter what's happened in the day or how tired I feel, the little cherub always puts a bit of pep in my step and warmth in my heart.

It's true what they say, Motherhood will change your life.

Not for better or for worse*, just for different. I miss having free time and lay ins. I miss having space in my house that isn't filled with plastic toys and equipment and I miss not being able to gallivant about as easily seeing friends. You swap nights out for dinners in and find that some chums will embrace this and others will leave you behind.

You think about all this and wonder if you'll ever have those experiences again. And then you see your child discovering something new with absolute wonderment or laughing at the most innocent of amusements and your heart just melts. Nights out in grotty clubs and crashing on friend's floors suddenly becomes the last the thing in the world you want to do.

For a fleeting moment you can see the world their through pure, blissful eyes and everywhere looks incredible. All that matters is family and kind people and playing together and eating your yogurt. Those are a child's eyes but maybe it would do us good to look through them every now and again too.

Motherhood has changed my life.

25 Facts About Me

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

After being inspired by A Rosie Outlook (who I'm so pleased I found through Sofia's Journal, it's amazing who you can find through those amazing advertisers!), I have decided to do my own '25 Things About Me'. The last time I did something like this was about 2 years ago so we're about due a catch up I think.

The idea seems pretty simple, share 25 things about your good self.

Let's go!

1. My favourite thing about Mindy is her snout. Mostly because the word 'snout' is so very satisfying to say.

2. If I could decorate my entire house in mints and pinks, I would.

3. I have a little scar on my right knee where I fell over in the school playground and got glass embedded into it. What a safe play environment.

4. The sound of typing is one of my favourite things to listen to.

5. I always, always, always have white bedding in my bedroom. I feel uncomfortable if Matt puts our beige set on (although grateful that he did it!).

6. I got engaged on December 1st 2006.

7. I hate eating outside.

8. I absolutely love the royal family and collect books, tins and china with them on.

9. I still suck my thumb. Don't judge me.

10. If I could go back in time and change one thing in my life it would be to have said goodbye to my mother before she died.

11. If ever I read a sad/bad news story, I go on pinterest straight away. It's my happy place.

12. I have the organisational skills of a flea.

13. The only sport I excel at is frisbee. Which let's face it, isn't much of a sport.

14. My Dad chose my name.

15. I once was a member of a gym (!) where in my head I renamed all the equipment so it was more friendly. So, rather than 'Treadmill', 'Wizadora' etc.

16. Much to Matt's annoyance, I constantly pinch his socks.

17. I think loneliness is the most painful thing.

18. I go to church on a weekly basis and really enjoy it.

19. 19 was the age I finally felt free.

20. I take a LOT of photographs.

21. I only just worked out that I could put the music from my laptop onto my phone. Durr.

22. I am addicted to list making.

23. The smell of mince cooking makes me want to be a little bit sick.

24. Blogging make me do internal happy dances.

25. Sunday night TV is my bliss.

That felt so good! If you have a place to share, feel free to write your lists too.

Were any of those new to you?

Sunday Summary

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

I like Sundays. The air feels fresher and the atmosphere somehow stiller.

Saturday brunch with my Husband. Bliss x http://instagr.am/p/U8mEaoDtgY/

I don't do chores, I don't dash about, I don't stress. I just be. It really is marvellous.

This week has been lovely.

I finally, finally organised the huge shelving unit in my office, which brings me one step closer to making a tour video of the room.

Darcy made some big steps, including putting her wellington boots on by herself, singing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, putting things back when asked to and learning all about snow.

I went to London and had a great meeting re YouTube and attended a really super beauty event (more of this soon).

I spent quality time with friends I haven't seen in a few weeks.

I saw all three of my gorgeously caring Aunties.

And to top it all, yesterday Darcy was with relatives whilst Matt and I lived out the romantic dream wandering round a gorgeous little village, lunching in a quaint tea shop, choosing ye olde sweets and popping into a local craft fair. How lovely it is to spend Husband and Wife time together when we're not 'Mummy and Daddy' every now and again.

Tell me how your week has been. I hope it's been as beautiful as mine.

Results || Bedroom Beauty Challenge

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

How has your week been? Did you read last week's interactive post, 'Bedroom Beauty Challenge'? If you didn't, save yourself the confusion and click HERE to familiarise yourself with the concept and then we're all ready to go go. 'Wake me up, before you go go". Love that song.

The challenge for January was 'Vivacious Vixen' and after seeing some of your creations, I'm impressed!! Feel free to link them below again if you want to.

I have to say, I feel like I let myself down a bit this month. I have had quite a stressful week with a lot more 'life' thrown at me than I thought, so fun beauty time kind of took a bit of a backseat. I had planned to do a red lip and black smokey eyes but alas, this was what I did with limited time. It's the look I wore to a very exciting Illamasqua event last night (more on this later) and I'm really pleased with it.

I think the bronzed brown eyes give the look a very toned down casual effect but the corally orange lips say, 'Hey there ladies and gents, I'm not afraid to wear colour, I'm bold, I'm wild, I live on the edge", (says the lady who blogs with an old lady blanket on her lap in the evening). The bright floral dress and 1960's hair give it a vivacious feel and over all, given the week I've had, I'm happy. I'll give myself a B+ haha. I'll try harder next time.

I've really enjoyed setting this little game, I think we all had a lot of fun. I have all the challenges set out for the next month so I'm looking forward to February and think you'll love it too.

Did you take part? Do you think you will next time? Feel free to give it a go over the weekend and leave your link here for everyone to find you!

Blue Monday

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

According to the general media, today is Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year. With a lack of sunlight, Christmas and our pay packets feeling long gone, people are apparently feeling a bit glum.

Since I'm a big believer in positive attitudes and finding the good in things, I thought it was about time for another of my Mini Happies lists. In case you're new around these parts (in which case, welcome, welcome oh lovely newcomer), a Mini Happy is just what it sounds like. Something small/simple that gives you pleasure. So, a trip to DisneyLand would be a Massive Happy, but a cold can of diet coke with a pink straw = Mini Happy. You get it, you're the clever sort, I can tell these things.

So, if you're feeling the pinch a little bit this month, here are some inexpensive Mini Happies to keep a smile on your face.

Free your mind

Use your stocks. Who doesn't have half a bottle of bubble bath floating around? Or a facemask sachet that could do with being used? Or that bath ballistic you've been saving for a special occasion? Make today the day you use them. Firstly, you'll feel all softy smooth smooth but secondly, there's a great deal of satisfaction in finishing a product. Waste not want not.

Organise. Are all your nail polishes just chucked haphazardly in a drawer? Uh oh. Find a box large enough and stand them in a happy manner. Then cut up some labels, dot a little of each colour, adhere dotted label onto corresponding lid and voila, your manicure kit is proud and loved. I'm actually in the process of doing this so look out for a blog post soon!

Make a list. Lists are a fantastic way of laying out important points and helping you see certain situations more clearly. I am a massive list lover. I feel lost in a day without a To Do list and I regularly have other categories too. Why not make a list of things you have enjoyed/achieved so far this month? Or things you have planned/want to plan for the rest of the year? You'll soon find your mood lifting.

Plan. Much like with the above point, by planning something you want to achieve/do this year, you will have something to look forward to or aspire to. It's a proud feeling when you achieve your goals and working towards them offers a lot more satisfaction than you might have thought. Pride and satisfaction in what you have done are both very positive and that's what we're all about today.

Do good. Just as receiving gifts/love/attention is nice, so is giving. Text your chum just to say, 'Happy Monday', tell your parents you appreciate something they have done for you lately or drop a work colleague an email telling them they look lovely today. By giving out positivity, you'll find a great deal more comes back your way.

so loved.

Other things I like to do to lift my spirits are browse Pinterest, take photographs, eat something naughty (not advocating comfort eating though- very bad really), making wishlists on clothing websites, taking Baby Glitter out for a brisk walk to blow away the cobwebs, treating myself to a crisp new magazine, blogging and skyping far away pals.

So my lovely Sprinklerinos, don't feel blue, there is so much you can do for little money and effort that will have you feeling chipper in no time.

I'd love to hear some of your mood elevating ideas in the comments.

Happy Monday!

Amazing Advertisers || Janaury 2013

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

This post always comes round so fast and is always a pleasure to write. This month in particular I shall enjoy it because I have spent a significant amount of time using my little sidebar library of great blogs. We have, like most of the UK, experienced heavy snow and after an initial gritty determination to go out (and finding that pushing a pram on ice is pretty torturous), I have been indoors and lacking in the motivation to do anything too physical.

59566_447397711992246_1941086519_n_large
(I don't even know what snowy little creature this is but it would have been a crime not to have him as our image today!)

So let's meet the ladies of the sidebar and see what they're all about.

Two words for you: Arm. Candy. I challenge you to not find something you like on this cute, clear, well organised web store. With a variety of colours, styles and metals, there is something to suit everyone's taste and with spring and short sleeves just around the snowy corner, I need to stock up!!

If you are familiar with any of my YouTube videos or posts from last year, you will know I am a huge fan of this shop. It is a treasure trove of cute home wares and gifts and I find myself trawling through it for hours. You can pay by paypal which is a huge plus for me and shipping is speedy. You'll like it.

You know those blogs that have a little bit of everything to tickle your pickle? Well The High Tea Cast is one of them. I absolutely loved the Love Letter to YouTube because I think it's something we can all relate to, agree with and laugh about. Go and see which points you find yourself nodding along to!

Paige is a little sweetheart who blogs about her experiences with beauty tools and products. Recently Paige has treated herself to a Beiber perfume (although she'd like you all to know, she isn't a fangirl!) and shares her opinions on a Babyliss styler. Also, Paige has a giveaway running so if you're interested in that, hop on over.

Bows, Bangles & Bakes was a blog I raved about on twitter this week. I felt thoroughly pepped up by Jen's extensive list of ways to beat the January blues without spending your hard earned mula. She made me want to get up and get going with fun! This blog is also full of OOTD's, tips, projects and lifestyle posts. I love it.

I have quite a confession to make. When I saw that Sofia had booked to advertise on my blog, I had a miniature fan girl  moment of excitement. I frickin' LOVE this blog. The photography is a visual feast, the writing beautiful, the content full of interest, I just love, love, love, LOVE it!! Stop reading this blog write now and click on her link. Be warned, you about to lose about 3 hours of your life!!

Smoke & Mirrors

According to, well, the internet, this blog no longer exists. Maybe this is true or maybe it's all just smoke and mirrors. Haha, see what I did there?

Stacie is an inspiration. Despite waiting for a heart and lung transplant, he blog is never full of self pity or begrudingness (new word there). On top of all that, this month she has had a chest infection AND the norovirus- what are the odds? The good news though is that her sister is engaged and that Stacie has been working on some super cool photo album projects. I love reading about her life. :)

Emily blogs about beauty, fashion and lifestyle. Recently Emily has shared with us what Father Christmas bought her and her thoughts on Jimmy Choo Flash perfume. Her reviews are easy to read and informative. Emily is also a keen tweeter.

This is a blog I was talking to my friend Claire about on Friday night. I was telling her that I love how each article is akin to something you might read in an expensive glossy magazine and how all the little posts are so well written and thought provoking. The layout of the blog is rare and inviting so I'd advice you go and spend a bit of time ferreting around. Yeah, ferreting.

Sarah is a girl after my own heart- a glitter obsessive! Her beauty blog is packed full of fair reviews (she recently had a terrible experience with a Soap and Glory peel), tips and tricks. Sarah also includes plenty of photos to give you a good view of the products and injects her humour into every post.

You know the blog you turn to when you need a little pick me up, a bit of an internet snuggle if you will? Well this is my that. I feel really invested in Rachael's life and love hearing about her day to day adventures. The way she talks about her boyfriend is just adorable, you can see a lot of love there. This blog is a truly, truly lovely slice of the web. Grab a hot drink and read your way through it.

So there we have this months Amazing Advertisers. If you would like to advertise on Sprinkle of Glitter, you can click HERE to learn more about it.

Have you found any new reads this month? Also, don't forget, there are only 5 days left to take part in January's Bedroom Beauty Challenge. Are you in?

Bedroom Beauty Challenge || January

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

After last year's success with the 7 Things and LOTD interactive posts, I thought it might be fun to carry this on in 2013.

In keeping with this blog's theme, this interactive post is beauty flavoured- yay!

What Is The Bedroom Beauty Challenge?

The idea of this challenge is to experiment, play and enjoy makeup. It's all too easy to find a couple of looks that work well for you, perfect them and then stick to them like a limpet in a rockpool. I know I do. I find myself in a beauty rut.

To help us climb out of our little ruts, each month I'm going to set you a spangly challenge. I'll give you a theme/genre/idea and it's your job to run with it and create something. If it's a little out of your comfort zone, that's fine. You're only in your bedroom. Nobody will ever see you being daring with colour or experimenting with texture, it's just you, in your bedroom, safe. You may well find that once you have dared to do something different in your bedroom (with beauty you filthy minded minxes), that you have the confidence to wear your new look out. This could lead to a whole new world of beautiful makeup ideas. And, if it doesn't, what have you lost? Nothing. You've gained only fun and freedom to try.

If you would like to play along on your own blog (here's where the interactive bit comes into play), feel free to take the image above and link it back so that your readers can take part too. Then, show me the look you've made. If you want to write a little bit about how you achieved it, go for it. If you want to just use my image and a picture of your face, go for it. This is all just for fun. Leave a link below so we can all discover you and your blog and be a Bedroom Beauty Challenge community! Naawww.

If you don't have a blog but are on twitter, you can tweetpic and use the hashtag #bedroombeauty so that I can find them all and have a nosey.

Oooff, don't worry, we won't have to do all that explaining every month!! I'll also be taking part in this challenge and next week, will upload my look too. So, without further ado, this months Bedroom Beauty Challenge is:

Vivacious Vixen

Make of this what you will and get your brushes out!

This challenge will close in exactly one week, on Friday the 25th of January.

Will you be taking part?

Lou's Reviews || Elizabeth Arden Visable Difference Lotion

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

I have been using Elizabeth Arden's Visable Difference Balancing Lotion for about 3 months now and have completely finished the bottle. Like many beauty obsessives, I often have more than one product on the go at once and flipflop between a few. This was different. It was like sticky chinese food, I wanted it every single day.

This skin balancing lotion* retails for £27.20 if you choose to buy it online from FeelUnique (linked above), or you can also buy it from Debenhams beauty hall for £32. You can also buy it in other places, but these are the ones I've researched. Feel free to get your google on!

The idea behind this product is that the oil free formula acts to balance your own natural moisture levels so that your skin is just right for you- because you're unique. Awwee.

I have naturally dry skin and find it becomes quite thirsty during the day. I loved how this lotion felt light, non greasy (as you'd expect from an oil-free product) and sank in really quickly. I can't bare moisturisers that just slide about your face and prevent you from moving to your foundation routine. The luxury of time is no longer mine thanks to my little glitter bug baby.

Using this leaves my skin feeling great all day. By the evening it is ready for cleansing and night cream but overall I have noticed no dry patches (a problem I can suffer from with lesser quality products) and this pleases me.

The packaging is fairly standard. I like that it has a pump- good for hygiene and waste preventative, but it's not something I would proudly display as one of my 'pretties'. It's just a staple product that lives in a drawer. I have actually taken and edited a couple of swatch shots but I asked myself, 'Are my readers really that silly that they need to see a dollup of white cream on my hand?' and the answer was no. We're all intelligent women (and possibly men if you're reading!), we know what a lotion looks like. Non?

In summary, yes to this skin product. It does what it promises, lived up to my expectations and as a result, my skin has thanked me. Next time I'm in need of a daily moisturiser (I currently have quite a stash put by), I will consider turning to this (if the lure of this Liz Earle one isn't too strong).

Have you tried this product? Are you an Elizabeth Arden fan? What have you tried from there?

Attitude Adjustments

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Today is Sunday. A day of rest, reflection and ambitions for fresh starts and new things in the coming week.

I always have a little think about what I aim to achieve in the upcoming week and what meetings or appointments I have on. I also try and think about deeper things I want to do, like show more appreciation to Matt or be more peaceful etc.

I thought that maybe this is a practise I could also translate onto my blog and every week (if you like it), we can have something that we all collectively strive for, to better our lives or ourselves. Nothing major, just small attitude adjustments.

So, naturally, I turned to my addiction- Pinterest.

http://pinterest.com/successdress/

These are the words of wisdom that I am going to try and live up to. I'll get back to you and let you know what situations I put these to use in and in turn, if you would like, you can tell me what you did too. If you don't want to share here, you can chat to me on Facebook or Twitter too.

Do you think you can add this to your life?

My Hair History

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Brace yourself for some shockingly bad photos today. They're not with my lovely cannon and beautifully edited, but real life through the ages numbers.

Once upon a time, my hair looked like this:

Blonde and wispy and pretty cute, even if I do say so myself.

After about four years, it thickened, darkened and my Mother decided a bowl cut was what I needed.

Thanks for that Mum!

After a few years, I was allowed to grow my hair a smidgen into what Matt affectionately calls, my 'helmet hair' on account of it looking like it could actually be a helmet. So kind.

As you can see, neon was all the rage in the 90's!!

Fast forward 15 years and I had lost the fringe, grown it long and had an appointment with bleach.
Woop!

(Do excuse the red eye- I'm taking these photos direct from my personal FB)

Two years, a wedding, pregnancy and a baby later, and my hair was shorter and darker.

The above was when Baby Glitter was only 15 days old and she looks super surprised to see me

A year on and my hair is now long, with it's natural colour at the top and ombred (courtesy of my chummy Zoe, also photographed) blonde at the ends.

And there we have it, my hair history. Truly thrilling stuff.

I have recently been contacted by Cloud Nine about a really fun competition they are running where you can win a styling tool of your choice by telling them what your New Hair's Resolution for 2013 is.

After hearing about this I thought now would be the perfect time to share my plans with you and also a good chance to let you know about winning fabulous products (who doesn't like a freebie?!).

If you would like to find out more about Cloud Nine's competition, I shall leave the links below for you.

So for 2013, I'm thinking, drumroll please, BLONDE! Goodbye ombre, hello golden locks. I'm even tempted to pop a couple of pastels in there like lilac and pink just to be fun for the Spring/Summer. Living on the edge!

Now you've seen my hair through the ages, what do you think? Stick with the ombre or go for gold? I'd love to hear your thoughts!!

Twenty Thousand Thank You's

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

A slight deviation from what I had planned today, but I'm the polite sort and felt it suitable.

20,000 Beauty Blog Followers

A couple of nights a go my blog reached the 20,000 subscriber mark. Ohmigerddd!!!!

I know I say it at every little blog landmark but THANK YOU. It's very easy to write out these words and very easy for you to read them, but the difficult thing is for me to really convey to you what this blog means to me.

It may just look like any old website that some woman posts text and images on but to me it is so much more. It is a part of me. I love it like I love Matt and Darcy and my friends and my home. It's like a home to me. My personal home for anything and everything that takes my fancy. My special place to share special things with people of like mindedness. I value it and cherish it and nurture it and through it, I value and cherish you too.

I don't know each and every one of you and I don't know where you live or what you do or how you behave, but I know that the support you give this little slice of the net, travels through the wires and bytes and tech and into me and makes my life all the better for it.

Whether you were follower number 20, 2,456 or 20,000, thank you for being a part of this place. I hope that it can be as special for you as it is for me and I hope we can share it with a lot more people to come- it's a very cool gang to be in dontchya think?

Lou's Reviews || Original Source Mint & Tee Tree

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

I'm an exciting kinda gal. I like to live on the edge. I do fun and thrilling things.

Sometimes though, I just want to talk about soap. Today is one of those days.

Hand soap in our bathroom is never something I over think or bother about too much. Usually I just pick up whatever is on offer in the supermarket and be done with it.

Recently, I picked up this handwash- The Original Source Mint and Tee Tree Anti-Bacterial Handwash, for £1.15, and it's love.

This liquid soap feels all kinds of good on your hands. It's minty freshness leaves you squeaky clean and it smells huh-mazing. Seriously, guests have commented on this soap. Matt said, (brace yourselves now),  "I like it". High praise indeed.

I love the funky packaging, the pretty colour (you know my love for pastel greens), the smell (that's my favourite bit) and the fact that it serves it's purpose and washes your germies away.

I know, hand soap isn't exactly thrilling stuff, makeup and skincare is far more interesting, but I truly love this stuff enough to consider it review worthy. I would encourage you to give it a little wiff next time you're in the hygiene aisle and try to resist it!

Am I over excited for soap? Do you stay loyal to one brand or do you choose things that are on offer?

January Wish List || Nails

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

With the festive season safely tucked up in bed and a big family holiday to save up for this year, I'm trying very hard to curb my spending. It's boring I tell you!

In a bid to quench my beauty thirst, I have created this visual wish list of nail products I'd love to own.

All the products in the collage can be found on BeautyBay, accept from the Dotting Tools from eBay, which I accidentally just placed a bid on. In fairness, they were only £1.38!

I flip flop between pastels and neons like nobodies business. For months I'll be obsessed with mints, pinks, peaches and greys and then all of a sudden, out of the blue, I'm enchanted with anything luminous. My nails are terribly fickle.

What nail colours and products are you utterly obsessed with at the moment? Do you ever go bare?

Happy Mint Hares

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Before Christmas, on one of my many jaunts through ASOS (an online clothes shopping haven), I stumbled across a bag that embodies everything I look for in a piece of arm candy and snapped it up quicker than you could say, 'Shouldn't you be saving for a holiday?".

ASOS Mint Hare Bag

Oh hello beautiful mint green bag with (faux) gold hardware, tassel and a embossed hare detail.

This bag is described as a 'Tassel Bowler Bag" but in my humble opinion it should be the Mint Hare Bag- far more whimsical.

Retailing for £35 for not real leather, I do think the pricing is a little steep. However, the fact that it is mint & gold, has forest animal detailing (I have a love of woodland creatures), is large enough to fit all my mummy junk and regular stuff in it, can be held with short handles or long straps and has a tassel....well that makes up for it for me.

This bag is just what I needed to brighten up a grey January and look forward to Spring with. I tend to wear a lot of pastels and florals from about February-August, so with any luck, this will see me through.

I haven't had an opportunity to take it outside a lot and really road test it so at the moment, on the durability front, the jury's out. I've never had a 'big bag' from ASOS before so I can't even look back and compare, but based purely on aesthetics, I LOVE IT!

What do you think? How much do you allow yourself to spend on a 'big bag'? I think my limit is about £60 if it's very, very special. Let me know in the comments, I'm interested.
