Patio Parties

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Summer is officially upon us and this year we are working on our outside space.

For four years we neglected our garden in favour of things like fixing the electrics, installing a kitchen, getting married and welcoming a new baby. Now though, we feel as though we have the time and energy to make it a more usable place and that is exactly what we are doing.

To celebrate making a start (and that is all we have done, a start), we had friends over for cocktails and BBQ and as per, I got a little over excited with my glasswear. I don't know if I've ever told you this but I have a real obsession with coloured pretty glasses. They just look like jewels. Most of these glasses were bought from a vintage homestore.

I made a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, left out a heap of glasses and let people serve themselves- far easier than constantly jumping up and down.

To make delicious drinks look even more appealing I used mirrors (which I originally bought for a craft project that failed) as trays. This helps emphasise pretty table wear and adds a touch of whimsy.

As dusk set in I bought out drinks in rinkydink milk bottles (which Darcy couldn't stop playing with) and replaced the big jugs for tea lights.

It was such a good night. There were about ten of us and we all ended up in pjs and hoodies, grazing on food, chatting and laughing. We lit candles all around the garden, got the fire pit working and stayed out til gone midnight. The great thing was, since this party was at our own house, Darcy's bedtime routine wasn't effected and she thought everyone was there just for her.

It's at events like this when I look round and realise how very rich we are. No, we don't have amazing cars (we share a ford!) and I don't buy designer bags but we have so much love and laughter, our good health, a beautiful daughter and pay our bills on time. Really truly, I am so happy these days.

What makes you feel rich?

*Goes off to shed tear of joy like a lame-ass*

A Most Marvellous Place To Shop

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

Last weekend Matt and I took out Darcy and some cash (not both from the cashpoint I hasten to add) and headed out to our local vintage superstore. I say 'superstore' but what I mean is- a big old brick warehouse sort of building that has been converted into a shop where individuals can rent out small areas of space to fill with all sorts of treasure and customers can purchase at a central till. Does that make sense?

If you live in Northamptonshire, it's called 'Most Marvellous Place To Shop' and is situated on Abington Square opposite the Jaguar garage. Parking is limited so expect to park in the near by multistory.

We had only intended to buy some interesting glassware for a new blog feature I have coming up, but we couldn't help not explore every nook and cranny. Darcy thought she was in treasure land. Although I will say, a toddler in a room full of antique china can produce some pretty tense moments!

Despite Matt being hidden by a smudge and Darcy looking away, I LOVE this picture. It perfectly captures the moment.

I can't decide if this orange tea set is so amazing or so rancid?

Trolls! I used to have so many of these!!

We left about £70 lighter with over 20 vintage glasses, 3 vintage jugs and 2 other mystery items which I will feature in a future post.

I'm really excited to use all my glasses and had so much fun poking around and seeing what there was out there. Matt loved finding all the comic book and robot stuff and Darcy was just over excited for the sheer amount of things to look at!

This is definitely the kind of place I could go every weekend and is a really unique place to take friends from out of town. Next time Thrifty comes to stay, I'll be sure to take her- she'd LOVE it!

Have you ever been to a place like this? If so, share the name and location so we can look out for it next time we're in that area!

Glitzy Gift Wrapping for my Glitzy Grandma

New years bring new starts and to me, they bring fresh motivation to have a great big clear out. I like to take down the decorations, hoover up all the sprinkles and recycle all the cards and generally unclutter my life. It was during one of my photograph declutterings that I stumbled across a few pictures I meant to blog about.

I bought my Grandma a brilliant book for Christmas, that had blank pages with titles like "What I would do if I won the lottery" etc, and then the chance for her to write her own answers. My marvellous Grandad made one of these for me a few months back and it is much treasured.

During a short period of relief from my pre-Christmas-toothache-from-hell, I really went to town on the wrapping of Grandma's present. I got the idea from the channel 4 programme, Kirstie's Homemade Christmas and found it very simple and pleasant to do. Best of all, I had all the materials already! The wire was from my beading stash and the beads were off an old broken bracelet.

I wont go through the steps of how to make it as it feels a bit like cheating. I took this idea from the TV and all the instructions are on the channel 4 website.

Remember, never throw away old bracelets, and always look after your Grandma!

"Oh and by the way..."

About a week ago, on a cold, dark, rainy Tuesday night, I popped in to Auntie Judith's to drop something off, it was very precious cargo (Issobelle) and then dashed to the door to get to an appointment.
So off I shlepped to the front door, about to face the elements when suuddeeennnnllyy, Judith said "Oh by the way, I've got something for you". Ooooooh Juuuditthh, what is this something you speak of? It isn't Christmas yet.

Well my little bloggerinos (this is what I shall call you Dear Reader), it turned out to be a big box of VINTAGE RIBBON!!! I simply had to put that in capitals to truly display my joy!! My Great Auntie Edna, who sadly died a few years back, used to help my Mum with her craft fairs (I come from a very very crafty family), and had saved a lot of the ribbon they used. Thankfully Auntie Judith had also kept it and thought I might want it. Of course I did!!

Naturally, this little beauty was too good to keep to myself so here I am, sharing it with you.

Enjoy!
