Aloha Sprinklerinos,
Whilst in town last week with Baby Glitter, I accidentally fell into House of Fraiser, fell into the YSL counter and then my credit card fell into the payment machine and a brand new mascara fell into my bag. Obviously, I am on a spending ban, so am absolutely not to blame for any of this.
Since I now have it (against my will of course), I thought I would review it. Oopsie.
YSL Mascara | Shocking | Deep Black
So here we have my accidental purchase. An accidental spend of £23.00 to be precise, but after trying this for a few days, I have no regrets at all.
I'm a sucker for the way things look and it's clear to see that the packaging for this product is luxurious- gold tube with embossed logo and sheeny shiny golden box to make it feel extra special. I know it's only card and plastic but I honestly feel a little bit excited when I pull this out of my makeup bag. It just looks special.
The wand has short plastic bristles of varying lengths. I get on really well with plastic wands and am happy to spend a bit of extra time applying. This is definitely not a 'wizz through and go' kind of product, you have to give it due care and attention. A luxury product deserves luxury care.
(Sadly I'm not a fresh faced 19 year old anymore so I have laughter lines and Mummyhood doesn't lend well to plenty of sleep so yes, there are little veins. I feel quite self conscious about this but figured the best way to give a full review of a mascara was on my peepers, so there we are, wrinkles and all!)
After using this mascara, I was IMPRESSED. It really gave so much length to my lashes and made me feel very doll like. I would go as far as to say this product has made my lashes the longest they have ever been without the aid of falsies.
The mascara lasted all day AND all night without smudging, flaking or generally misbehaving. The only tiny problem I have with it was that it made my lashes feel a little crispy, but with that much lengthening and staying power, I can overlook that for sure!
I know £23 is a lot of money to pay when the high street offers a plethora of alternatives, but if you are looking to treat yourself, this is your answer.
Have you tried this mascara? Does it entice you?
Toodlepip!
xx
Looks like a very good mascara! I notice we kind of have the same eyes, green with a lightbrown edge around the pupil :) Ixx
ReplyDeleteYour eyelashes look amazing! I love ysl, there packaging is so luxiousruos and great to whip out of your bag and show off on a night out. I would buy this but I'm currently saving up for benefit they're real, you should check that out it'll probably fall into your bag too! :p x
ReplyDeleteDon't you just hate it when stuff FALLS into your bag, so inconvenient and unwanted. Like, for example, a Topshop dress just happened to JUMP into my online basket a few days ago and now it has landed on my doorstep. Definitely not pleased about this. At all. :) xx
ReplyDeleteOooh, it looks so gold and pretty xx
ReplyDeleteI think I may have to buy that one too..you enabler you! ;-) Did you get the mascara in the last GlossyBox? I was very impressed with it, and will certainly be buying one of those.
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for pretty packaging too, the mascara looks really good. xxx
ReplyDeleteI think I need this in my life!
ReplyDeleteI bought this on Saturday, I can't wait to try it!
ReplyDeleteLooks like it gave a really nice length to your eyelashes, i recently bought the BADgal mascara and have been really pleased with it :) xx
ReplyDeletewanted this for so long but just can't bring myself to spend all that money on it! looks fab tho xoox
ReplyDeleteThis has been on my shopping list for a while, you are such an enabler. Going to order it now! Eeeee.xx
ReplyDeleteIm entices me! Accidents happen! a very similar accident happened to me with a bottle of amore amore perfume the other week :) xo

This looks amazing on the lashes. Ive wanted to try this for a while but im so on the fence about spending the money, not quite sure if its worth it! I love the Ysl packaging, so stunning x
ReplyDeleteAhhh! I've been umming and ahhing about adding this to my duty free shopping list but I think this has made my mind up! I think it's worth it just for the gorgeous packaging!x
ReplyDeleteOf course you're not to blame Louise, accidents like that do happen! For example, today I fell into Boots and must have had a brief seizure, during which I found myself grabbing two Revlon Just Bitten balm stains and my card found it's way into the machine!
ReplyDeleteIt's all a bit of a blur really....
A review will soon be up

Hi Louise!!
ReplyDeleteGreat review. I just wanted to say that I fell in love with you even more when you said you were self-concious about your eyes. How refreshing that you still found the strength to put the pictures of your eyes up. I wish I had the same confidence. I've had a lot of trouble with my left eye and have had a total of 5 operations on it and have check ups every 6 months at the hospital. Thanks to all the poking and prodding that has been done to it, my eye gets red from time to time. I am super self concious of it and it has prevented me from going out with my friends lots of times and just generally living life to the fullest because if my eye is red I feel disgusting. I know it sounds silly, and it probably is, but I just felt compelled to share my story with you. I don't think your pictures look bad at all but we all have our insecurities I guess.
Anyway, I really want to try this mascara now!!

That last comment sounds like I am going shoplifting! I meant accidentally pay for it then accidentally put it in my bag! Of course! woops xx
ReplyDeleteHaha I wish a YSL mascara would just 'fall' into my bag! :) I usually go for Chanel Inimitable, the one time a year I get a high end mascara (christmas!) but this one looks really good too!

i love this mascara!
ReplyDeleteArgh, I'm so so so so sooooo jealous! I've been dying to get this bad boy for my lashes because EVERYONE raves about it and you've just made it ten trillion times more tempting. I'm going on holiday tomorrow so if duty free has a deal good enough on this, then that'll be it - I'll cave and buy it ALL BECAUSE OF YOU! Haha ;)
ReplyDeleteSuper review, as always :)

Wow! I love how it looks on your eyes. I would for no effect in the world buy a mascara that expensive, though ... but it looks really great on you <3
ReplyDeleteWow! You can really tell a difference! Now that is what makes me want to go out and buy this, except I just found I have loads of mascara and I kinda need to get through it all, which means so spending.... You can get the long lash look with any mascara, it's more helpfull if you have two makes - put one on let it dry and then put the other on, and keep doing it until you have long lashes that you like :) But this looks really affective x
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great product. If ever I tire of my Lancome mascara, I might give this a go!

I would definitely buy this just for the packaging. Things fall into my bag too many times, and my debit card is always tripping into chip and pin machines! xxx
ReplyDeletegreat post!
ReplyDeleteMaybe we can follow eachother?
let me know if you follow me
&nd I follow back!

That looks like an amazing mascara, the results were fantastic! Unfortunately on my very small budget £23 is a bit excessive but hey, maybe someone will fancy treating me?

haha you always manage to make me laugh, either reading your posts or watching your youtube videos, things often "fall" into my bag too, oops! this mascara does seem awesome though :)

I just got this mascara last week too! I'm liking it so far. It looks great on you as well!
ReplyDeleteEvery single one of your blog posts put a smile to our faces! The YSL range is a little too pricey for us but still enjoyed reading the post nonetheless! :-) xo

I love this mascara. It's one of my faves x
ReplyDeleteOh wow, it looks so pretty & glamorous!
ReplyDeletePretty pictures :)
ReplyDeleteThis is my favourite mascara! I got a tonne of samples at it over christmas and I know that once they all run out I'll have to go and spend the money...I love how it is lightly perfumed too but it just doesn't irritate my eyes!x
ReplyDeleteYour lashes look amazinggg. I really want to try this, but as I have terrible lashes I never know whether to splash out an expensive mascara, as even if it's good it may still look pants on me! :)xx
ReplyDeleteOhh the packaging would be enough to entice me... Ive only ever tried the YSL lipsticks (also an accidental purchase whereby i 'fell' into House of Fraser *ahem*) and ive been so impressed - im a sucker for a decent mascara so this will be going onto the birthday list - your eyelashes look amazing - not too overdone .. i likes it xx
ReplyDeleteHi Louise, do you wear contact lenses?
ReplyDeleteYou have lovely eyes silly! No laughter lines at all :) This looks really good! I often suffer too from the *falling* of myself into shop and the *falling* of my card into the machine.... hmmmm not complaining though ;) Hope you are having a nice week, Hannah xxxxx

ReplyDeleteAll you "***falling into bag/shop**" people out there - admit your problem. You are all crazy shoppers.! I like it though, whatever puts a :-) on your face is worth it.x
