Motivational Monday #3

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

What a week it was last week! I shall have to do a post on it full of pictures to share it all. Until then, let's lift our Monday morning spirits and look ahead to the next 7 days with positivity and excitement.

This is a lesson I have learnt and continue to learn the hard way. You know those mistakes that you make over and over again? Well this is mine. I find it very hard to let go of friendships and always try to save them or see the best in the other person, even if they are basically, idiots to me.

In the times when I have stopped chasing love, affection and attention, I have felt so much calmer and respected myself a whole lot more. The moment you stop chasing things from people who are never going to give it, you are much more aware of the people in your life who are standing round you with everything you want, offering to give it to you in bountiful amounts. The moment you stop wasting your time on people who don't care about you, you can give so much more to those who do. You may even find that the moment you stop throwing away your energy on people who never cared, they notice the love and fun and kindness you are giving your real friends and have a change of heart.

I am so lucky with the people and support networks I have in my life and I think it's really important that I don't ever loose sight of those in minutes when I feel unloved or lonely. It's only a state of mine, not a reality.

So, the message today is, identify your good and great relationships and nurture them. Identify your non-starter relationships, smile peacefully and stop worrying about them.

What do you think? Have you experienced anything like this before?

  1. I love your motivational Monday posts Louise very AWESOME!

I have experienced this pretty much between the ages of 16-20 but as soon as my health started to decline I realised I didn't need to spend so much time trying make a friendship work and have found that altough this means I don't have hundreds of friends, I have a few friends that I know would drop everything to be with me if I needed them and they are the only type of friends I need :).

  8. Wonderful words of wisdom, Louise. I went through a rough year last year where I was always chasing people and friendships, only making my own feelings hurt and my anxiety worse. But when I finally cut out all of the negative people in my life I was able to grow into my skin more and realize some things that I needed or wanted to do. Negativity is never helpful.
Thanks for this post, it just reminds me why I made the changes that I did :)

  10. I really need this tonight, because I'm going through this sort of situation. And like you, it's a mistake that I've made over and over in my life, especially in high school. Thanks for the motivation, love <3

  11. Louise, this is the story of my life! I'm the worst at letting go of friendships and with Facebook, it was making that harder. It was so obvious that people were only "spying" on my life but not really taking the time to speak to me personally and ask how I was doing regardless of my constant attempts to keep in touch. I recently got rid of facebook and not to sound dramatic or anything but it's THE BEST THING I'VE EVER DONE. :) I love your Motivational Mondays so, so much.

  12. I love your Monday posts. They are so refreshing, and it makes me look forward to Monday, because I feel like you'll be there to teach me something new. :)
I also got super excited about this one because I used this picture as well on one of my blogposts! :)
I am also looking forward to the February Bedroom Challenge, and when you replied to my comment on YouTube, well let's just say I got a bit excited. (plus I lost my voice today and my mom didn't know what was going on when I was pointing at the screen to your reply!)
Anyways, I hope you are having a great Monday :)

  13. I really needed this, I used to be really close to this girl but she always made me feel bad about myself and said horrible things about our friends, I've tried so many times to see the best in her and just get on but I've finally spoken up and this made me realise I did the right thing. Thanks so much Louise!

  30. I'd agree that it's important to not spend your time worrying if people don't accept or appreciate your love, but I think we need to remember to love anyway, and not push people away :)

  32. I found that when I was in high school I wanted to be accepted by people that I would 'chase' and put loads of effort into friendships that were just dreadful and they just weren't friends. However it has made me appreciate the amazing friends I have now & I can see early enough in a friendship whether it's going to be worth it overall.

I love these Monday morning posts :)

  43. I love this Louise, and it has come at a good time for me too. For me it also speaks volumes that it shouldn't always be me doing the chasing - even when it's people who I love and love me back I know I would have much more self respect if I stop myself being the one who makes all the plans and pushes for their company and maybe be a little less weak seeking their approval.
    Thanks x

  45. This is great! I know exactly what this feels like, I waste so much energy on people who aren't worth it and who would rather show me a hardship than a good time. Thanks for the wake up call Louise! I hope I can turn a new leaf and let go of the people who aren't worth my time. After all, life is too awesome to waste your time on someone who isn't worth it! Thank you for the nudge in the right direction. :-))

I've always said I'd rather have a few close friends and lots of acquaintances rather than lots of 'friends' - I hate when people go where the most attention and snub others.

  57. But what do you do when you realize nobody calls... nobody cares...?
I'm thankfull that I have my husband and family, because without them... Nobody apperently likes a sick person who doesn't have the enery to to exiting things all the time... Is that all there was?

    ReplyDelete
  58. sadly I no longer speak to my mother or any of her family. my dad died when I was 18 and since then I have been fighting a losing battle with them all, they just weren't interested in me or getting to know who I was as I was growing up and becoming myself! particularly when I left home and came to Bristol for uni. My mum remarried and my sister just always made my life hard and in the end I just decided to take myself out of the situation (obviously there's a lot more to it than what I've said) because I couldn't make them happy and in trying I was making myself unhappy. it's true what they say; you can choose your friends but not your family. although I love them all very much, it became clear to me that it wasn't reciprocated (or at least that's how they made me feel)

anywho, I totally get what you're saying, it's happened with friends too. you're very wise for one so young!

  59. This was great to read right now as I dont have many friends and my relationship is just this-me wanting attention and him not wanting to give it. I am at a loss of what to do right now... :(

    ReplyDelete
  60. this post was very inspirational to me.
i know what you are talking about n i have done this for so long
that sometimes it takes over my life.
i was with a boy for 6 yrs an i put alot of my attention an effort into the
relationship for him to just say okay bye i dont want to talk to you anymore
    literally ..
but i guesswe just need to realize that we cant make some people the center of our universe an that we need to learn when to just give up an behappy on our own

    ReplyDelete
  61. i think it's a scary and brave thing to do, to let go of friendships. I sort of replay and replay over and over in my mind moments spent with person A or B and it's easy to then think that life sucks. But, we have to look at the greater picture, and just let things flow themselves :)
