Aloha Sprinklerinos,
In life, it seems normal to spend vast amounts of time mapping out our lives and deciding on the paths we must take. I am a regular mapper myself. Do your exams, graduate, find a nice man, buy a house, get married, have a baby, check, check, check and check. Then what?
Sometimes we make plans for ourselves and they work like clockwork. Sometimes they fall to absolute pieces and we are beside ourselves with grief, sadness, frustration or loss. In times like this, the world can feel like it's caving in on itself and you have no options, or that the options you do have are pretty diar.
As someone who has been in situations where you feel there is no way out or where you feel you have lost your way and can't see the wood for the trees, I know how frightening and distressing that can feel. From experience, I also know that is is not necessary to feel this way. There are always other options, there are always other paths.
'Other path' absolutely does not mean 'wrong path'. It's all too easy to feel that if you change your path you are failing or making a mistake, but in actual fact you are just changing your direction but carrying on your journey, with all it's winds and twists, and that's alright.
It's OK to worry and over think which direction you should take in your life, as long as you do keep walking down your path. The only mistake would be stopping.
I hope this strikes a positive note with anyone who is feeling a bit lost or are searching for their 'Plan B'. If not, below are the rest of February's Motivational Monday's to put a bit of pep in your step.

I really needed to hear this at this point in my life, as I'm currently kind of lost and trying to figure out what my next step should be, so thank you for this! I always look forward to your Motivational Mondays even though it's still only Sunday here...haha x
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what I needed to read today. These past few days have been awful. I have been so upset that things just didn't go as I planned. It's taking me a while to come up with plan B, but I finally got out of bed and chose to have a more productive day.

lovely words of encouragement, Louise :) I went through a rough summer last year stressing over all of the things I did and didn't have control over and you're right- you just have to learn to breathe and let go. <3

Wow, i really needed this, you have NO idea! I always try and be so positive all the time, but it gets really difficult. When you said "The only mistake would be stopping" that really hit me!! Thank you so much for this Louise, you've made me think SO SO differntly about taking a different path that will lead me to the SAME place. I never thought of that before. :) <3 - Lilie xx

I feel like this is describing me right now. I'm following the path my parents want me on and it's frustrating me, but I can't steer off the path. I guess I just need to figure out my own plan and remember it will all be OK - I'm only 19 after all.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement, Louise!

A lot of the best things in life come unplanned, at least in my opinion. We can plan out our lives to the last detail, but I feel like the happiest moments are those that come unexpectedly. What you said makes a lot of sense. When things go wrong, we can't just stop walking. We have to keep moving forward. Otherwise, we get stuck.
ReplyDeleteFor a while, when I first went to college, I got stuck. Luckily a few months later, I started running long distance, and that got me moving down my path again, stronger then ever.
We all hit rocky spots. We just got to keep moving! Great Monday message.
i love these kind of post the always get me thinking and set a great tone, thanks louise!

This was awesome. It really hits home for me, as I very recently decided to follow my own way and do my own thing - which also required me to walk away from what many may think looked like the "right" path. I totally agree that the other path does not equal the "wrong" one. Thanks!!
ReplyDeletehttp://offthebandwagonblog.blogspot.com
I love this! I felt the same way for a long time, that everything has to be planned. I've realized that it's ok if it doesn't go to plan! I've actually learned the most from those times when my life has taken a different path! I was wondering if I could take part in this even though it's a bit late in the month? I would love to blog about my experience. Thanks Louise!

Thank you for always brightening my Sunday nights (I'm in the US) right before another school week starts! I am such a planner myself and when my plan does go wrong, it sure can bring me down. Thanks for reminding me that there is no "wrong path." You are the best!

I really do love seeing these posts, I wish you were my fairy godmother Louise and you could just pop out of thin air and reassure me whenever I felt like digging myself a rather large hole, curling up inside of it and having a big tree planted on top of me.
ReplyDeleteI actually had one of these days on Saturday; It's a real struggle to decide what I want to do with my life, I am almost 19 and the pressure to be 99.9% certain on exactly which career path you want to take is phenomenal, safe to say I had a bit of a melt down; But these posts really do help me sometimes and I'd like to thank you for that :)

ReplyDeleteThank you so very much.
ReplyDeleteI am 37 and have completely lost my way. I have tried so hard to build a career (especially in illustration) and have faced setback after obstacle after setback. I have qualifications but these seem to count for nothing, if definitely seems to be a case of not what you know but who you know. Despite also doing graphic design and marketing, I now feel utterly lost. It's funny because when I was younger I knew what I wanted to do and was very clear about which direction to take. Now after numerous failed relationships and my mum being put into care as well I am back at home helping out my dad. I was hoping that by now I would have worked up the ranks in my career, have my own home and my own little family. At the moment I just feel totally unmotivated which is very unlike me. Thank you for your kind and supportive words, I will keep coming back and referring to this post x
Fantastic post! Really inspirational :)

Wow, I love this post! I couldn't agree more. As someone who hasn't taken the "typical" path in life (full-time office job, university degree, gap year overseas) it can feel like I've failed some times but in actual fact I've just had success in other areas and am moving down a different path then the "norm" and that's not a bad thing!
ReplyDeletewww.debrabros.blogspot.com.au
Love these posts Louise, so inspirational!
ReplyDeleteBtw,Did you mean diar?
I honestly cannot thank you enough for this post. Without giving u my life story lol, I've been feeling extremely lost and all the things you have mentioned in this post. I've studied to be a graphic designer for years and about a year ago I realized my heart was in make up art. I've just been too scared to give up on a route I've worked hard for, even if I have no desire to do it anymore. This post makes me feel like it wouldn't be giving up, just changing direction. I've been watching lots of ur videos to distract myself from feeling this way but this has made me confront it.
ReplyDeleteThank u so much again Louise and sorry for the long post. You are a wonderful person!
xx
Great blog post Louise! I must admit I've re-read it a few times as it really speaks to me. I'm currently working for myself designing and selling my own soft furnishings. I thoroughly enjoy it but as with everyone other business, i'm struggling. Me & my OH are engaged and saving up for a deposit for a house so we have a lot of saving to do. I've decided to move on from my little business and look for a full time job, but really don't know where to start! I feel like a failure but you are right, starting something new and taking a different path doesn't not mean that!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the motivation

ReplyDeleteWww.chrissylilly.blogspot.com
Going through all your 'Motivational Mondays', and they are so inspiring! I can really relate to this one: at the moment I'm just about to sit my A Level exams, and instead of going to university like the other 99% of my year, I'm going full time at my job (which incidentally, I love!)and progressing into management. A lot of people have said this is the wrong decision, but I'm so happy to have taken a different path, and I've already been promoted!
ReplyDeleteHa ha!. Isn't that the truth. Let's move on to Plan B. Thanks for sharing from 3girls1apple.com
