Lou's How To's :: Birthday Wreath

Aloha Sprinklerinos,

A couple of days ago I instagrammed ('Sprinkleofglitr') a picture of something I had made for Baby Glitter and I had so much interest in it, that I thought I would write a blog post for you all.

This is the image in question. It is a Birthday Wreath made for Baby Glitter's upcoming 1st Birthday Party and it was beyond easy to make.

My friend Marie in America had made one for her little girl's birthday bash and I instantly fell in love and decided to make my own. You can check her video out HERE to see all her gorgeous party decor.

I shall give you a step by step and ebay links for crafty bits if you like to order online. Alternatively, you could pop along to your local craft store. I just like ebay because it's easy, speedy and paypal friendly- ohhh yeaaah!

Steppy by Steppy's:

1. Get yourself a polystyrene ring, a ball of wool in whichever colour you prefer, about 50cm (to be on the safe side- you may have excess) of ribbon in whichever colour you prefer, stick on gems, scissors and most fun of all, embellishments!! You can go wild with whatever you would like, but I chose cupcakes to give it a birthday feel.

2. Wrap the wool around the ring. For a more full and plush appearance, wrap round a couple of times. Warning- this takes time! Sit yourself in front of a film and just enjoy the easy task and feel satisfied watching it slowly fill up.

3. Wrap the ribbon round the ring to give it a candy cane spiral effect. Tie a bow and loop at the top so that you will be able to hang it from a hook.

4. Add the embellishments in any pattern or design.

5. Add the stick on gems in any pattern or design.

6. Stand back smugly in the knowledge that you just made a Birthday Wreath.

Seriously, this is an easy peasy lemon squeezy project and could be adapted for any occasion. How nice would an Autumnul wreath look? Mmmmm, I love Autumn.

I plan on displaying this near Baby Glitter's highchair at her party so that it is in a lot of her photographs and then afterwards I will hang it in her bedroom. Maybe we'll get it out every year!

If simple pimple baby projects are your bag, last year I wrote a post on customising baby clothes with pens and waaaayyy back in 2009 in my first ever month of blogging, I wrote a post on making a tutu for a barbie doll. Craft-tastic!

Is this something you might try? Do you think it will make a unique decoration?

Mothering Sunday

Aloha Bloggerinos,

Firstly, Happy Mothering Sunday to all those Mummy Bloggerinos out there, I hope you had a really pampered lovely day :)

My day was happy, sad, frustrating and exciting- that's a lorra lorra emotions non?

As you may have noticed from my lack of "I've had a baby" posts, I still haven't given birth. I never, ever thought I would be one of those women who go 2 weeks over and I'm gutted. I read that Mylene Klass (who's book I LOVED) had her first daughter Ava, at 36 weeks and 6 days and had hoped I'd be similar. She has since had her second daughter Hero (thoughts on the name?) and so I bet she had a busy Mothering Sunday.

Anyone care to guess the weight of Baby Glitter when she's born? I reckon about 5 stone.

My second stretch and sweep (shudder) clearly hasn't worked, nor has vigorous birth ball bouncing, pineapple (despite being allergic and my lips and mouth swelling up a fair bit!), walking, bumpy roads in the car and rudeytudeycoupletime, so I have been booked in for an induction this week. I'm uber nervous but know I can't go on like this a much longer!

Clearly, this was the frustrating part of my day, that I sttillllll don't have my Baby Glitter to cuddle. Amazingly though, she managed (with perhaps a little help from Mattmoo) to bring me croissants, nutella, and orange juice in the fancy glasses (does anyone else have glasswear that they save for special visitors and are too frightened to use themselves?! haha) annnddd a really nice card thanking me for being so comfy and womby. What a clever fetus! Also, my chum Charly dropped a card through my door from Baby Glitter, which I thought was really sweet of her to think of me. This, was the happy part of my day.

What was the exciting part then Louise? Well chummies, we went to one of my favourite places ever (prepare to think me very lame)...IKEA!!! I love, love, love wandering round IKEA. Matt and I play 'Fantasy Home' and we pretend the little show rooms are in our house and I pop in to visit him in his snazzy study or he pops in to my kitchen for a hearty stew hahaha. Today we bought this goorrrgeous big chest of drawers, primarily for my obscenely large makeup collection and I'm so impressed at Matt for assembling it all. We also bought a bedside table in a similar design and a big print that will go in out front room that we are redecorating and are going to be terrifically pompous and call the 'Sun Room', mwahaha. I'm super excited to organise all my makeup into this- would you like to see pictures once it's done? I won't put any up unless you ask because I don't want to be a poncy show-off.

Sad part of the day. Well, if you have been reading a while you will know that my Mum died of cancer when I was 7 and Mothering Sunday is always a day I think of her a little bit more than all the other days. I know people always say lovely things about people who have passed away, but she really truly was a very special person. She did so much good for people and brought a lot of joy to the world.

Here's just one example to show what I mean. When I was 4 or 5, Mum and Dad went on a little trip to Moscow so see the sights and soak up the culture (I didn't go). Whilst there, they met a family which was a Mother and her 2 young daughters. They were living in extreme poverty in awful accommodation and life was a misery. Mum and Dad came home from their trip but my Mum couldn't shake her meeting with the family. She wasn't sure what she could do to make a huge change but knew she wanted to do something. By now it was December. She flew back to Moscow, found the family, went to some kind of Embassy (my Dad will know the exact details if you really want to know) and Mum refused to leave until she had to forms she needed to bring the Mother (Elaina) and her 2 daughters (Katya and Marsha) back to the UK. They came and stayed with us for Christmas and I remember how amazed they were at EVERYTHING. When we went to Tesco for the Christmas shop, Elaina was gobsmacked because she had never seen a place with so much food as she had had to queue for hours just to buy the basics. The family had a brilliant Christmas with all the trimmings and presents but then it was time for them to go back to their real lives. My Mum couldn't stand it and helped them sort out visas, a job for Elaina, school places for the girls and a place to live with furniture, clothes, toys, the lot. This kind of thing wasn't unusual for my Mum. Perhaps in another post I will tell you more of her crazy amazing adventures. Last I heard (about 10 years ago), the Russian family were living in happily in London. I'd love to find them and get back in touch.

Hmm that was a bit waffly but I just wanted to demonstrate the goodness she did. I miss her everyday and wish now more than ever that I could pick up the phone and say hello or get in her clapped out white astra and go shopping with her. I wish she could touch my bump and feel Baby Glitter kick, come with me to my antenatal appointments and then cuddle her grandaughter.

I know people say "she's looking down on you" and I don't disbelieve this, but it's not the same as really being here. Now that I have Baby Glitter to make Mothering Sunday special, I feel a lot more at peace with it all, so this is a positive indeed.

So that's it for my little update. In other news I have a few Lou's Reviews to post, we had our first BBQ of the year yesterday (the best bit was when Matt said to me "I'm just going to the loo, if the flames get too high, put the lid on it", ummmm no, I'm not a fire fighter and I'm a walking whale!), Mindycat has gone nuts and has taken to licking the cushion of my bedroom chair (most unsavoury of her) and that's about it really.

Seeing as I'm giving birth this week (cripes!!), I perhaps won't be on too much, but rest assured I will be back and won't forget you- don't forget me either please!!

Toodlepip!

Home Corners :: Baby Glitter's Nursery

Aloha Bloggerinos,

Do you remember way back when I did a Home Corners on my hallway (HERE)? Well I promised to do more but taking pictures of rooms is surprisingly difficult! So, to combat this, I decided I would just take pictures of bits and bobs and corners of the rooms to show you and then I can continue with this little feature. Sound good? I hope so.

So a couple of weeks back when I was feeling all excited, I decided to take some snaps of Baby Glitter's room and a few of the gorgeous things in it. I have also made a YouTube Room Tour video of it which you can see HERE.

As me, Baby Glitter and the room evolve, I take more pictures and share them because I love documenting things like this. Please bare in mind that I have a lot of stuff left to get for her and we're on a bit of a budget so for the moment it's just the basics. I'm of the mentality that as long as Baby Glitter has the things she NEEDS and lots of love and care, she will be alright. Everything else is a bonus or a luxury. We're going to provide as many luxuries as we can but I'm not going to tear myself up over the fact that she doesn't yet have a mobile for the cot etc. I'd rather put money into her savings account :)

Baby Glitter's cot is from IKEA and I think was around the £70-80 mark, which I think is really reasonable when you look at Mamas and Papas prices. We also bought the mattress from there and I think it was around £30ish. If (and that's a big IF) we have another baby, we'll use this cot again because it's unisex, but it's vital to buy a new mattress for every baby. Little facterino for you there.

LFC Teddy from Daddy and soft bunny from my Auntie Rose, who I like to call 'RoseyPoseyTimbleTosey' hahaha.

Just think- in a few weeks, a little tiny new life will be wrapped up in those. *smiles*

Can you see my packed hospital bag at the bottom. It'll be a scary moment when I have to grab that and go! Eek!

Prepared for mess!

Bunny shoes from Auntie Jackie who I call 'Auntie Generous' because she gave me a car for my wedding present- wowzas!! I love rabbits. I half want to call my baby 'Bunny' hahaha.

Cute slipper/sock jobbies from Auntie Judith. I don't have a nickname for her! Perhaps I should make one ...

Round the mirror I stuck little gems and hung this floral fairy light garland. It creates a really gorgeous soft pink glow and I'll use it for night feeds. Before you all get up in arms, I won't leave them on unattended for risk of an inferno!

Pretty.

I've stuck tonnes of these little butterflies all over her walls, to make a sublte 'magic garden' type of feel. They are from garlands you can buy from HobbyCrafts that I had originally bought for our wedding but never used. Just cut off the strings and wire, blob a bit of blutac on and voila! I think they're lovely because they're not too in your face but give a sweet sparkle.

Safety time! This little thermometre was actually free from Hipp. If you're a mummy-to-be and wanting one for your nursery, log onto their website HERE and register. They send it through the post with a load of other bumf but I'm really glad of mine. It's one less thing to worry about and that can only be good.

So Bloggerinos, I do hope you enjoyed that. I will add more in time, but with 5 weeks to go, that's where I'm up to. There is loooads more on the Room Tour video and I also did a Baby Clothes haul, so do be sure to have a looksie.

I'd like this last room to be BGW's, very lovely.

Did any of you English Rose's watch 'Upstairs, Downstairs' this week? I LOVE the use of colour in that home. If only I was brave enough for bright aqua rooms!

Every Girl Needs a Wardrobe

Aloha Bloggerinos,

I've been spending a lot of time clearing out our guest room, which has fast become our junk room, to make way for Baby Girl Watson.

One of the big tasks was to totally empty the little wardrobe which was crammed full of everything you can imagine! I'm going to sand the inside, clean and paint it pink and maybe add a few sparkles here and there. If this girl is anything like her Mummy, she will love it! Her poor Daddy has no chance! haha!

Anyhoo, whilst I was sorting the enormous piles of crap which had accumulated on the floor, Mindy took a running jump and made herself at home. Turns out the girliness in her took over.

As every day passes I love this little baby girl more and more and am really enjoying girlifying another room of our home.

Have you done anything special or crafty in any of your rooms? Tell me about it.

Pregnancy Update- 20 Weeks

Aloha Bloggerinos,

This little (or long as it has turned out) post will be especially for all the lovely Bloggerinos who have been asking about my pregnancy/telling me how broody they are/just being lovely-ahhh :)

If pregnant women wittering on about they're aches and pains isn't your bag, look away now!

So, as the title suggests, I'm 20 weeks pregnant now and feeling marvellous. We had our 5 month scan on Friday and it was truly the one of the best 30 minutes of my life! Matt was able to come to this one so for him, it was the first time he saw it. We saw the all four chambers of the heart, both halves of the brain, it's spine, ribs, leg bones, eye sockets, mouth, nose, everything. It was just an amazing experience to see our little baby moving about on the screen, totally unaware that it's parents were looking on loving it to bits.

After all the routine checks were confirmed as normal (hurrah!), the sonographer had a good look at baby's bits and told us we're having a little baby........................girl!!!! I literally burst into tears I was so happy. Matt had tears in his eyes and even the sonographer shed a tear with us. People always describe these moments as amazing and I never really got it, I just thought they were being dramatic, but now I understand. It was a moment when nothing else filled the room except pure and untainted joy. Joy for the moment and joy for what was to come.

Now I know what we're having, I feel a million times more bonded with her and sooooo excited. It's mad because I was so sure she was a he, and here I am, dreaming of sparkly shoes and frilly dresses.

In the last few weeks I have been feeling movement and in the last 10 days or so I have been feeling clear kicks and punches. It feels like someone tapping you with their finger but from the inside and is so odd!! You kind of forget your pregnant sometimes and then you have a little knock knock from baby and smile to yourself, that oh yes, your little baby loves you. The other morning, I was laying really still and she was kicking quite vigorously and Matt was able to feel her! I was so glad. I want him to be able to feel as close to her as I do, I think he does.

I had a bit of a scare last week, when I was bent over double in pain. Urgh it was awful. I know aches are usual as they are your body stretching to accommodate little one, but this was unreal. I went to the emergency dr and after a good prod about, he just said she had had a rather large growth spurt and my body was struggling to adjust- stretchy stretchy! I'm feeling a lot better now so panic not.

I've developed some oh-so-sexy stretch marks on my tummy too. I can't say I'm overly bothered by them though because I just think they are my body making my baby. If it contributes to a lovely baby it can't be that bad.

I have a properly defined bump now, which is just lovely and I find myself stroking it, or her, absent mindedly. Matt and I often talk about things we're going to do with her, show her, teach her. I feel so lucky to be able to have all this.

We've picked out her names but we'll be keeping these schtum until she's born I'm afraid. We've told both sets of parents and a few friends and the majority have loved her name. My Dad and Stepmum didn't seem too enamoured with it but there we are, I tried not to be too hurt- what a luxury to be able to be brutally honest eh?

We're slowly building our stash of stuff up, although I'm yet to buy anything pink or girly, mainly due to lack of funds :(. People have been so generous though and bought lots of lovely baby things so I am really pleased. I've been spending far too much time trawling through Etsy.com (like an eBay but for wonderful handmade products) for those gorgeous big headbands you see little American babies in. I haven't seen any over here and I don't want to put the baby in regular headbands because their heads are so delicate.

Anyway, have I rambled on long enough? haha. No snaps to share this time, hope you can forgive me :)

Are any of you pregnant/trying/had a baby? I love hearing other people's stories. Orrr do any of you make/sell those lovely baby headbands? Do let me know.

Lots of maternal love,

Toodlepip!

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Aloha Bloggerinos,

Do excuse the title and unrelated images, I'm just in that merry wintery christmas kinda mood- oohhhh yeeaahhh :)

As you may have noticed, I have been a bit slack on the old blog front of late, so I thought I would fill you in and give you a bit of a chatty post, as these seem to be rather popular. I luurvvvee chatty posts because I feel like I'm off loading my thoughts and find it really theraputic.

Photobucket
(I want trot through here in a nice dress and heels. Mmmm heels, the bump puts paid to any thoughts of sexy high shoes nowadays. Roll on March!)
Well, in the last week or so I have been tres busy. I signed up to a recruitment agency because the job search was going nowhere. They send me on various assignments and my most recent has been at a very well known cosmetic surgery clinic. It's a lovely place, very swish and my main roll (brace yourself) is to label the pictures of ladies boobies, before and after the surgery!! Basically, every man's dream job. Mwahaha.
I've also been temping at my Dad's office, which involved phoning around various international holiday resorts and taking a few details. Out of about 100 calls, I found the American's the best and luurvveedd how they all wished me a good day. I know it's not sincere but I do wish us Brits could share the love a bit. What do you think?

Photobucket
(J'adore wrapping presents and making gorgeous Christmas cards. Pretty pretty)
In pregnancy news I am officially five months pregnant now and blooming! I have a full on bump and am thouroughly enjoying maternity jeans. I am seriously questioning why I have spent my life agonising over jeans shopping, when I could have just bought these beauties and been done with it. Sod dignity, I'm NEVER leaving the bliss of stretchy waist bands. NEVER!!

I can feel him (I think it's a boy) moving about and have had a few light kicks which feels amazing. My scan is this Friday and providing bambino is laying in the correct position, we will see if it has a winky or fairy and can get cracking on painting the nursery- wahoo!!

Being as I'm not working full time, I have found myself rich in time but poor in mula, so this Christmas will be handcrafted as much as possible. I have some super ideas up my sleeve and will be giving you a few tutorials on how to do these too. None of them will be difficult so you will all be able to give them a whirl!

Photobucket
(I want to sit here -on a waterproof somethingorother- and drink hot chocolate and smooch Matt. Tehe)
Our lounge is finally, after 18 months, decorated so I have a "Home Corners" planned for you.

I am love love bloomin' well loving the wintery feel nowadays. I live for this time of year and will literally die with joy if it snows!! There's nothing better than being ll cosy in doors, eating chocolate and snuggling the cat.

I haven't taken any snaps in about 50 years, but I promise I will get cracking and and whip up some homey and crafty posts for you, unless you have any other requests?

Let me know how you're getting on, I love hearing from you all.

Home Corners: The Hallway

Aloha Bloggerinos,

Crikey Mikey it's been a busy week! Sorry I have been a bit lacking and just done short posts, I have been rushed off my feet, which I most unusual (I like to take life at a leisurely pace you see).

I gave you a little vote the other day and lots of you seemed peachy keen on having a Home Corners post, so that you shall have! I hope to do more of these too.

I decided to start with my hallway because that is the first thing you would see if you came to visit me, so it's like you are on a little virtual visit now :)

If you were to walk down my stairs, this would be your view (minus the Mindycat maybe!). The chair was brown up until about 2 months ago, when I could stand it no longer, sanded, wiped, painted and reupholstered (yes, I reupholstered that bad boy) and made it a lot more contemporary.

The picture frame closest to you is a pressed flower arrangement that I did with my Mum before she died, when I was about 6. I painted the frame to match the chair so that I ties in nicely.

The mirror is from ye olden times (only the 1950's actually) and belonged to my Gran, who has also sadly died. Gee wizz I sound morbid don't I?! I'm not, just that this little corner has a lot of Mummy/Granny things in it.

A little close up for you.

I love the simplicity of this chair, with a tiny bit of detail to make it individual. I made that little scented heart myself and thought it would look pretty there. If you would like one, let me know and I can whip one up for you for £3.20.

So on the little shelf I have a glass of peacock feathers (have I mentioned my peacock obsession? naaahh), a paperweight my Dad bought me years ago that I enjoy the colours of, a picture of good old gran and a little green glass dish with mula. I like to think Gran is guarding that little tray of coins. I don't know who from but I enjoy that she has a shelf role. Yes, a role on the shelf. Weird I know.

Here's the other side of the hall with a much longer shelf. The little shelf only has a phone on so not much to snap there! Pretty picture from Daddio, purple tealight holder, new IKEA vase with freshly cut flowers from the garden and mahoosive candle.
Do you like the sign we have? Ahhhhh.

The best flowers are the free ones you get from the garden.

Hmm can I just say, I despise the wallpaper. The old biddy who we bought the house off had EVERYTHING in a different wall texture. We've got most of it off but the hall needs work. Slowly slowly catchy monkey.

This is the hall from the stairs with both sides in. Those hearts on the door are on the other side and they say "welcome to our home". I shall show you some time :)

Halls are such an important part of a home but often not appreciated. I love mine so much. It gets all the evening light and I regularly change it about.

In spirit of my "homey" mood today, I went with a friend to Home Sense in Northampton- Penny Blossom- THANK YOU for introducing me to such a treasure trove. If I don't buy those silver drawers in the entrance, I may die. Fact.

Hope you liked my first Home Corners post! Where next?

Abby's Giveaway- My Dream Dressing Table

Aloha Bloggerinos,

As promised, this is my entry for Abby's other giveaway (she is doing two), which is to describe your dream dressing table.

When I saw this competition the other day, I just knew I had to enter and here is why:

When we bought this house in Summer '09, we were handed a little plastic box full of keys. There were keys to the front and back doors, the windows and the garage BUT, were there any keys to the shed I hear you ask? NO!

A year went by of us never going in the shed or knowing what was in there, until one day I could stand it no longer! I went down to that shed and did something very unladylike and quite thuggish.......I bashed the lock in. To be precise, I bashed the lock in with a stone toad garden ornament that I found in the bushes!! Honestly, I never thought my life would come to the day when I was bashing in my OWN shed with a stone toad but there we are.

I stepped through the broken door to be greeted with spiders, spades and a beautiful wooden dressing table!! The glee!!! All of a sudden I felt a project coming along. I would refurbish this little gem!

Me and my chum Jess hotfooted it down to Wilkos, bought paint, brushes and medium sandpaper (as recommended by Grandad) and we were away!!

With a bit of tarting up, the old (and free I might add) dresser came up a treat! It was missing a draw but using some sturdy card, I created a little shelving area for things like GHD's, magazines and other general bumf. Eventually I plan on making a little curtain to hide it all.

On my dresser I have my mirrored jewellery box (would you like to see what's in it? Let me know because I took photos just in case), a few hair flowers, my current obsession Viva La Juicy perfume and Moisturiser and a crystal bowl full of nail polishes- soooo girlie!

As you can see, I don't have a mirror on it, but that is because we have mirrored wardrobes so there is not need- more space for pretties.

This is a new addition to our room so I'm sure it will change an evolve with the things I put on and in it, but for now, this is it.

I love this soooo much because I think the green really compliments my pink bedroom, it was free (aside from the wilkos bits), it is vintage and when I look at it I feel a real sense of achievement for transforming something so pretty.

Have you ever done a project like this? I have transformed a few more pieces in my home, should I post about them or are you all about the makeup?

My Day as a Domestic Goddess

Aloha Bloggerinos!

It's Saturday morning, the cat is purring, the birds are tweeting and I have a fun filled day of CLEANING ahead. Ooohhh can you feel the excitement? Not.

We bought this house summer 2009 and spent a lot of time and funds completely doing it up (a little old lady lived here before and it was very 1040's, but not in a good way) and making it a home. It was all very exciting and liberating to be able to go into any room and think "ha it's mine, I can do whatever I want with it", rather than have to consult with a landlord or beg my dad to even let me put blutak on a wall!

We finished most of the decorating by Feb this year and then I went back to full time work and as you can imagine, the house has been a little ignored.

So today I am using you lovely bloggerinos as motivation. I am going to clean and tidy every room and then show you pictures of them as a little "LouLou's Home Tour" type jobby and you can have a nosey. Woop!

My main priorities are the guest bedroom for our many guest next weekend- think we are having 5 people stay over- cripes!, and the bathroom/landing area because it is being taken over by laundry! Oooohh I shall be a little Domestic Goddess by the time the day is done.

Upcoming posts are reviews on my new Revlon Lipglosses (3 colours wooooo), Eylure Festival Lashes Haul, Any Questions answered when it gets to 10 questions, and a How-To for polkadot bow hair clips.

Which do you want first?

Various Winter Happy's

Well bloggerinos, since last we met up, there has been a turkey, presents, a trip to Liverpool and a good sing song of Auld Land Syne; so it is only natural that my kodak and I have been snapping all over the place and I have taken a million photographs of things to go on my happy list.

As you all know, a happy list is a personal affair of little things that bring a silent smile to your heart, and it is for this reason that I will not show you all my new happy list entries, and also because it is as long as my arm!
So without further adoo, here it is, drum roll please).

I bought this kitch little cup at a car boot sale for 50p because I'm a fan of all things royal and I thought it was cute. It now houses my lovely makeup brushes and is nestled happily with my other makeup which I love dearly.
This is my newly decorated boudoir. I took one with the flash and one without so you can enjoy the twinkly fairy light effect. As you can imagine, the fiance truely loves the girlyness! hehe.

I recently bought a 120 colour eyeshadow pallet from the gloriousness that is eBay. When it arrived, I couldn't wait to try all the colours out. Lucky for me, my friend was at hand with a bare face for me to play with. Mwahahahaha!

Here is a picture that is like music to my ears. A load of ribbon I got in Market Harbourough with Judith, for a snippit (love that word) of what I would have paid in Hobbycraft-brilliant!! All shiny and colourful and dazzling. Mmmmm.

My favourite Christmas decoration is this cushioned heart that my best bud made me. It means a lot to me because I know she took a lot of time and care to make it and every time that I put it up, I think of her and smile to myself. I know that sounds disgustingly slushy but I care not! It's my blog nah na nah na naah naaah! :)
Well, that's enough for now. I hope my happy snaps inspire you to build up your happy list this 2010.

Toodlepip! xx
